My partner has a Yallo Mobile subscription for CHF ~25. Last week she called the sales hotline and asked for a discount on the same subscription (because I have the same, but cheaper). The sales hotline said that Yallo no longer offers such big discounts. Five minutes later, she called the cancellation hotline and worked out a deal: 40% discount if she rates the hotline employee well in the survey afterwards. The deal proposal came from the hotline employee.
I experienced similar situations before and it makes totally sense from an economical perspective. They save time and money by not arguing with customers that will stay even without a better offer.
From a consumer perspective it’s intransparent, however as soon as you got to know the game, you can probably get better deals* than the average consumer in a fully transparent world. ![]()
*as your own subscription prices illustrates well
I just moved in a brand new apartment which require Wifi to control pretty much everything (like thermostat, lights, blinds).
Till now i didn’t have any wifi and did everything with the hotspot, but now i’m looking for a cheap internet solution.
I found something called Green.ch
Do you guys have any experience with them ? Is this worth it ? I found an offer for 1Gbit/s for 16.45 chf/month…
Let me know, appreciate your help!
Check the details! The low price is only in the first 12 months but you have to stay for 24.
Over 24months you’ll pay 1087.20 in total which is 45.3 CHF/month.
I would go with Galaxus instead (10Gbit, 39.-/month or cheaper if you have other family/friends members + 79.- activation). Will be cheaper, more flexible and faster.
My experience with Digital Republic has been very good so far.
So, if I am using Galaxus Internet with a total of 5 family members, then it gets cheaper by CHF 4?
Can a family member also use the internet solution for his household, so two Galaxus internet through the Friends + Family, do you know that by any chance?
Yes this works:
- you have galaxus internet, 4 friends have galaxus internet
- you have galaxus internet, 4 friends have galaxus mobile (phone contract, also good deal)
or any mix between those.
Note that it counts per person, so you having galaxus mobile and galaxus internet still only counts as 1.
In both 1 and 2 each member will pay 4.- less on their subscription (internet or mobile).
You can push this game further by having one of the family being a student or at a company that has a deal with galaxus and the whole thing goes down another 3-4 CHF for everyone.*
*Here I am not sure whether that will work for the internet or only the mobile.
It sounds complicated (but all written in their FAQs), but even if you don’t do these tricks, the internet would still be a good deal IMO.
I didn’t know about Digital Republic.. interesting! So you went with the 20.-CHF package and internet seems good so far ?
Had Digital Republic as Internet in a clubhouse for a long time, always worked well. A friend said that MVNO such as Digitec Galaxus, Digital Republik, Aldi Suisse Mobile etc. are subject to the same fair use conditions as Sunrise, as Sunrise applies them to the entire network. I don’t know whether this is true. From the fair use conditions of Sunrise:
Excessive use of mobile network services can cause capacity problems and impair network performance, which has a direct effect on other mobile network customers’ user experience. In order to prevent this situation, Sunrise will temporarily deprioritize the 4G, 4G+ and 5G data traffic of customers who reach a certain limit value:
- First deprioritization: A first deprioritization is carried out for customers whose monthly data usage is higher than 97% of all other customers, based on an average determined on a quarterly basis (status November 2022: approx. 100 GB per month).
- Second deprioritization: An additional deprioritization is carried out within the same month for customers whose monthly data usage is higher than 99.98% of all other customers, based on an average determined on a quarterly basis (status November 2022: approx. 500 GB per month).
Customers whose data has been deprioritized may notice reduced mobile speed at locations and times of day when the mobile network is overloaded. This generally only becomes noticeable when carrying out more data-intensive activities. On antenna cells that are not overloaded, deprioritization will have no effect on broadband speed.
I think that’s pretty fair. And better than Swisscom and Sunrise, which do not provide any precise information on what fair use means.
I have a Flat 10 in our holiday home and the Flat 30 in our apartment. Both work fine.
You can even pause the subscription if you don’t need the connection for some time (e.g. 2 month trip abroad).
You can also take the router with you if you go on a trip in Switzerland.
Plus customer service is great.
It ticks all my boxes.
P.S. For all on Sunrise - you have 1 year free Perplexity AI Pro sub available.
Just received a marketing SMS from Yallo (belongs to Sunrise):
My “Yallo Black” (everything unlimited in Switzerland, 40 GB roaming per month in EU, USA, and Canada) subscription for CHF 12.90 per month (details) will be upgraded to the new Yallo Black plan, which includes an additional 5 GB roaming per month for 49 additional countries.
Great deal. I’m finding it for 25/month + 60 for activation now.
Is yours cheaper because you bundled it or was it a special deal that might happen again?
I signed up for it a few years ago on Black Friday for around CHF 25-27 per month (the subscription is only available around Black Friday, hence the name). No bundle. After that, I wanted to switch to Digital Republic, so I canceled and initiated the mobile number transfer.
After termination, someone from Yallo called and said:
- It’s a shame you’re leaving us, we’d love to keep you (the usual words).
- And then he said he had just given me a discount, effective immediately. I could check in the customer center. The cancellation is still active, so if I want to leave, I don’t need to do anything. But I can keep the discount if I cancel the transfer with Digital Rebulic.
The call lasted maybe ~60 seconds.
I then sent Digital Repubik an email and they simply replied, “No problem, your new subscription has been canceled at no cost.” The fact that both use the Sunrise network may have helped, but a few days later everything was back to normal in the Yallo customer center as if nothing had ever happened, but the discount remained in place as promised.
Has anyone had Galaxus Internet for a while? 39.–/month for 10GBit/s without minimum contract duration would be ideal to try to see if I can get by without using my own router…
That would actually be perfect for me. I think I’m paying around 39 Fr. under the QoQa deal, which is fine for me. It’s just a hassle now to switch. Which I guess is their plan to get new customers.
I guess when it first came out (which is when I got it), it was cheap - at least for the 1000/1000 up/down offering. But now they forced the competition to do better and the competition has undercut them.
Yes, though not for long. So far all good. Speed via WiFi ~2GBit and via cable up to 4Gbit (quite symmetric).
The limit here is mainly the devices (and the LAN-dongle limited to 5GBit). No matter the time of the day, I could get > 1GBit/s, which is more than enough for me.
Especially the no-minimum-duration* is what sold it to me. I didn’t wanna go with a provider that delivers bad quality while locking me in for 2 years. If Galaxus Internet turns bad at some point, I’m gone the next month.
*but there is 79.- activation fee to keep in mind, also when you move
Thanks for sharing your experience. What I really like about Galaxus is that they don’t do that CGNAT/DS-Lite nonsense, but instead offer native IPv4 and allow port forwarding. Do you know if you also get a native IPv6 address?
Unfortunately, they officially force you to use their (loan) routers as well — I’d much prefer to connect my own fiber box
At least the router they provide is quite good (Zyxel with a 10GBit/s LAN port).
As the fiber outlet in my flat is in the stupidest place imaginable, I need a WiFi access point in a more central location and run a ethernet cable to it. So the 10GBit/s LAN port is welcome.
