Tax declarations are fun

25K childcare also for Staat, yeah! (I assume the Gemeinde remains ~10k?)

If employer pays then it cannot be deducted

I guess employer can deduct it themselves then? At least that would make sense, but i do not know.

It’s the same? Like there is no extra for Gemeinde…

I tried filling in the ZHPrivateTax yesterday (31.01.2025). While dividends for Swiss stocks got auto-filled, dividends of my US domiciled ETF did not get autofilled and the dividend field is not editable either. The relevant data for 2024 is already in ICTAX, but not loading in ZHPrivateTax. Guess u ok wait a few days or just shoot a message to ZHPrivateTax

Happened to me a few times. Probably the worst time to use their services, it is a lottery. At least once the dividends are filled in they stay filled in, even if the company does not appear later.

Probably they should start with individual deadlines if they don’t have the infrastructure to handle all at once…

Waiting a few hours helped.

The “sync” button in the ZH tax software to get current data from ICTax is also gone compared to previous years, no?

It is fixed now. A couple of extra clicks this year and the dividend information loads. Till last year it was automatically loaded when adding the transactions.

Some US ETFs (in my case VB, VBR, VSS) have not been completely implemented in ICTAX, especially with regards to distributions. Probably it’s the reason why I don’t see the autofilling of dividends. Do you have an idea on how much time does it take for them to implement everything?

Ask the ICTax folks if it’s still missing by mid-March (that’s when the US funds are publishing data).

If you add deductions in the tax software (e.g. in ZH), do you actually upload a receipt even in the cases where they say it’s “Freiwillig”/Voluntary? So far I did, but I just wonder whether I make my life unnecessary hard and they would just “trust” about these things. Some deductions (e.g. Pillar 3a) you are forced to upload a receipt, while for others you are not.

E.g. for Health Insurance premium they also write “Freiwillige Belege hochladen”, so what happens if one doesnt upload anything and just states the amount? More work later because they ask for it?

Not sure how helpful it is since I am not located in Zürich but I do not. Primarily for convenience not having to upload too many documents.

For health insurance premium I am confused. I noticed the tax document from the health insurance providers are different. For example, two years ago I uploaded this document but it included the costs of the premium. Hence, the tax authorities told me that premium cannot be declared for medical costs. Last year I was with a different provider and the tax statement covers only the personal costs, so franchise, deductible, and anything not covered by the insurance but not the monthly premium.

I think in the past you were supposed to include it. Maybe now since ~everybody pays more than the limit and insurance is mandatory they don’t ask for it?

It has been years I have only submitted the mandatory attachments (in my case that is salary certificate, 3a contributions and broker statement). And no tax authorities ever came back asking for more (and I have dealt with 4 so far, including ZH).

I believe tax authorities changed their approach when they moved to e-declarations as attachments were cumbersome to scan (both for the authorities if they are still sent by post and for people at home) and often they can infer anyway if what you are declaring make sense (e.g., health insurance premiums is public data, you need to get to your job and they know the address, etc.).

Can someone tell me how to include “Gassenspenden” without receipt in ZH tax declaration?
Which category do I need to use?

You can put it under “Freiwillige Zuwendungen”

Does this exist in Vaud?

Basic question

If you have 3 US ETFs on IBKR, and you list 5 positions on ZH Tax portal, do you attach the activity report on each position or only attaching in one of the row is enough?

As IBKR activity report includes info about all positions combined. Just wondering what’s the best practice

this was discussed in the forum last year too. Someone reached out to Zurich tax office and was told that in absence of position specific statement, one can attach the full report with every position.
this is also what I did last year and plan to do this year too. I might, this year, add in comment / bemerkungen section the page numbers of the report containing trades and dividend information.

The thing is until last year, for DA1 relevant positions, we were forced to submit documents for every position. Thus only option was to duplicate statements

This year that’s not the case
So I am wondering if attaching statement to one position would be enough
