Mustachian phone plan

German provider a good deal ?

Well… show me your list.

I tried all 3 providers in CH.
Best is Swisscom. 20 per month is a fairly good quality/price ratio without having to become crazy with shitty voice quality etc.

we were talking about a 2nd sim for EU, not as a main plan.

Simplicity :

FYI for existing Yallo customers:
I just switched my existing Yallo fat plus to Yallo Black. They charge a one-off 25.- fee for the change, but you get the same “life-long” deal at 24.- a month.

My experience with yallo is ok - the data signal is quite poor at times, but it’s sufficient.

That’s why I’m still hesitating to switch from Wingo (Swisscom). I live in AG and work in SO, so it’s not Zürich.

From personal experience I can confirm that at my home address signal and speed is better with Salt/Yallo but the coverage overall is superior from Wingo/Swisscom especially if you are in the mountains or in buildings with thick walls/underground etc. At home I have to use my WiFi now since Wingo only gets me like 1 Mbit/s whereas with Yallo/Salt I had over 50 Mbit/s. It seems to me that also the 4g modem in the phone makes a difference since my girlfriend with her Samsung S9 gets better coverage and speeds than I do with my iPhone XS both on the Wingo network.

I get pretty poor reception in the train between ZH and Zug with Yallo/Sunrise. Other than that, signal is ok for me, both at home and at the office. I use an older iPhone X, so might also depend on you device.

Of course, those are my own personal experiences. PreCovid, I was traveling a lot in the train, and 9 out of 10 times the SC network was better. E.g. when I still travelled regularly from Basel SBB to Zürich HB, with Yallo I often didn’t have internet for half of the trip. No issues at all with Swisscom.

Other than that, my own experience is that SC has usually better coverage (e.g. in Ticino, around Lugano; around Lucerne, going from Basel SBB to Lucerne train station). Also when I’m abroad, somehow SC seems to use the better partner network.

But of course it really depends on where you live.

One more hint; you can call the sales hotline, and ask for a rebate/claim of the subscription changing fee
It worked fine for me!

Yallo (Sunrise) reception is pretty good, using over 1 year in CH and EU, never had any issues with mobile or data.

Where I live signal strength/quality is similar between Swisscom and Yallo, but after changing the phone from iPhone X to iPhone 12 (while being on Yallo) I can see that the signal strength is much worse…

The problem with Yallo Black is that it doesn’t include calls to EU (only data roaming is included).
So I might stay with my Yallo superfat.
Update: just checked and saw that Superfat XXL is 41.- now. Just called them, and they upgraded immediately. One-time charge of 25.- for activation. fyi: changing the subscription in the web interface didn’t work (only using customer service)

Between ZH and ZG also Swisscom is bad. I suppose all of them. It might be because the technology is not used to see 200persons switch antenna at the same time.

I’m not a mother tongue english, but it makes me sad to see those translations made from ppl that barely speak it.
(yes, I know, my english isn’t that good, but please … “Advice” ?)

We just called this morning and changed our plan for both me and my GF. We called on the English hotline, and the call center girls English was perfect. Maybe they should have used her to do the translations on the website

Is signal strength overall significant worse with iPhone 12? I’m still on iPhone X, and considering to change to iPhone 13 mini …

You can likely waive that 25 chf fee - just ping them on chat or phone

Edit: As others above confirmed

I think I read somewhere that people tend to see worse signal strengths on iPhone 12, because the modem has changed compared to previous models, but I’m not sure where it was. From experience I can say it is very probable though…

Can you refer where others confirmed it? I changed two plans today, so now I’m wondering if I can still waive the fee. I used the search box in this thread, but couldn’t find entries on how to waive the 25 CHF change fee.

Edit: found the older entries by searching for fee instead of 25 CHF (message 236+238, fyi)
