Mustachian phone plan

Since he indicated (after my earlier remark that throttling can be severe) that wasn’t concerned about speed and seemed he’d be OK (?) with 256 Kbit/s at Yallo, I thought it was an appropriate mention.

With the caveat of outgoing calls/SMS. Even the 4 CHF/month plan has 0.4 Mbit/s.

Provided that the transfer speed is reliable (which I’d hope on an IoT plan), that should be good enough for basic instant messenger use (larger photos/videos may take a bit longer to receive/send).

Mother’s Day 60% discounts at Yallo: yallo

The Swipe (I think it’s yallo and therefor Sunrise) also offers eSim. But I didn’t understand the principle of an eSim.

It’s like a sim, just that you load directly on your phone. There’s pros and cons, it’s not a massive improvement except maybe the initial setup (might not have to wait to receive a physical object to get started, but some providers will anyway still send the qr code by post to validate the address so not necessarily faster).

(I use it because that’s the only way to do dual sim with my phone).

Thanks for the explanation. Is this the main advantage, right? To have 2 numbers (professional and/or private… or even from two different countries?) Any other advantage? two princing plans?

For me, it’s not really about the 2nd line or number.
I am using it with an iPhone (which has only one physical SIM slot), to optimise costs:

  1. Digitec connect eSIM, 12 months for 100 CHF, including unlimited domestic calls, 3GB internet, including 1GB roaming

  2. Salt prepaid SIM: for cheap international calls (just a couple of minutes a month).

This basically covers all internet usage (in CH and abroad), domestic and foreign calls and SMS for me.
And I’m paying less than 10 CHF a month, combined.

Same for me (prepaid + data I can switch to a different provider easily)

Though should have done like you and put data on eSim, it’s too easy to mess up a transfer between phone vs. just switching the physical sim.

For the moment I have decided to go for Yallo’s current offer with 60% discounts. Next year, after moving to the new house, I’ll probably hunt for combined offer with Internet access. Small hint for you in case you think about choosing Yallo (and probably other providers as well) - ask by chat to waive the activation fee (59 CHF in this case), worked for me without questions.

Regarding ROAMING options and the eSim possibilities while traveling, has anyone tried TRUPHONE solutions ?

They have an app and an eSim solution to solve the roaming issues and they seem to have good data plans for all of those traveling abroad (I’m thinking about holidays’ season). A couple of examples:

  • Data plan for France 1gb 3€ 30 days / 3gb 8€ 30 days / 5gb 13€ 30 days
  • Data plan for Europe 1gb 5€ 30 days / 3gb 15€ 30 days … / 5gb 20€ 30 days …

These solutions apply to some smartphones but also tablets. I read about them here.

yallo regular plus:
20 GB internet, unlimited calls and texts in Switzerland:
16 CHF / month (+ 59.- activation)

yallo swiss plus:
unlimited internet, calls and texts in Switzerland, 100 minutes + 1GB in roaming (Europe/US/CA):
24 CHF / month (+ 59.- activation)

Pro tip: Just ping them on chat to waive the activation fee. :+1:

Hi, I’m switching to yallo. Where can I find the chat? I only see an e-mail to write them. Did you write to them just: Could you remove the activation fee, please?
Thanks!

There’s a popup message:

I know from experience that it pays off to just bluntly ask for a discount.

I have already applied for my portability. Both my girlfriend and I got the 59chf activation fee for free, so we saved 118chf in total. Thank you very much!

it depends. They have 3 tarifs

I don’t know this company but the XXL plan seem very interesting.

Yes ! Anyone has experience with talktalk ?

Does it have WiFi calling ? Does it have ebill ?

The only annoying thing i see is the 24 months contract.

None whatsoever. They use the Sunrise network though. I currently have a plan very similar to that one with Sunrise for 45.- (Qoqa offer) and this looks really tempting. I like that I can use my phone without thinking of the bill, everywhere.

Will the price be kept at 25.- after the 24 months?
