Interesting!
I did not find any source for that with a quick Google search, can you give me a link?
Couldn’t provide you proof off the top of my head.
Anecdotal evidence from myself, customer reports online, e.g. here, does suggest it. I also have nerdy friends that test such things. It’s an open secret, basically. Even a Sunrise representative told me off the record - and I don’t think that was just to make a sale.
It’s usually not that bad or noticeable unless your network cell is congested or you’re using tons of data (morning or afternoon rush hour on trains could have been good examples, though now of course Corona play a role).
I btw now switched to the Wingo Swiss plan for 24.-/month. Unlimited data compared to the Fair Flat. Afaik a little more expensive than the digitec connect offers but on the Swisscom network which I prefer.
As I’m going to change my job, I’m looking for cheap mobile abo (previous was paid by my current employer). I found that LIDL has interesting offer - 11.95 CHF per month - Smart-abo | L’Abo idéal c’est Lidl.. Anyone has any experience with them or Salt network in general? And question from my son, who currently uses Yallo…what would be displayed as a network on the phone? Salt or…LIDL? It seems a no-go for him if it is LIDL
I haven’t tried the LIDL brand, but usually it does not show the original network.
Seems your son hasn’t grown a full mustache yet.
Maybe you should cut him a deal he can’t refuse?
Exactly, for the moment he is quite the opposite (even though the first “funny” mustache started to appear - he is 13 years old)…not an easy topic
a) Salt Basic Young: 5GB internet, unlimited calls/SMS within CH @ CHF 14.95/month
b) LIDL Connect Smart Abo 5GB: 5GB internet, unlimited calls/SMS within CH @ CHF 11.95/month
Basically same network, same conditions, same thing.
If it was my son, I’d probably offer him a deal and make him choose:
a) “You get a firsthand Salt plan”
b) “You learn to live with LIDL, and I’ll increase your monthly allowance of pocket money by the savings/price difference for the first year”
Variation, if I’m cheap:
“I’ll pay you an allowance of CHF 11.95 for mobile phone expenses each month.
And you pay your mobile phone bill from your own bank account, son!”
Either way, the kid can’t complain not to have a choice.
It says “Lidl Connect” on my phone, but I can turn it off. It only shows when I pull the menu down then.
Thanks :). And what about the service itself - all fine?
BTW - I just found a “no-go” for me: Si la totalité des 5 Go inclus dans l’abonnement mensuel a été utilisée, il est possible d’acheter des paquets de données afin de continuer à surfer.
If I understand it correctly, it is not that after using 5 Go the speed is lowered, it just stops working.
Well, the ones that do limit the speed, will limit it to being practically unusable, won‘t they?
You mean like connection speed and quality? It’s salt, so not very good, but good enough for me. I think it’s good enough for 5Gb. Depends on your location of course. You can check it with a prepaid sim in advance.
Also no LSV or eBill as far as I know.
E.g. Yallo lowers it to 256 Kbit/s. For me the most important thing is not the speed, but that it just would work, without checking how much I have already used etc.
You can get unlimited mobile internet for 4 CHF a month.
Where? With LIDL Connect? Maybe I’m old school, but I also have a need for a phone number ;).
Digital Republic.
Includes unlimited incoming calls and SMS. So you do get a phone number.
Good to know, thanks!
I didn’t say anything about outgoing calls and SMS, did I?
But I just noticed that they’ve begun offering outgoing calls/SMS as an unlimited option at 10 CHF/month. Still in beta though, no international pricing/functionality or per-use pricing.
The great thing about Digital Republic is that you can adjust your plan on a monthly basis. I did set my card to inactive due do Covid-19 restrictions and mandatory home office.
SIM and activation are free.
PS: also, they do have offer eSIM. I’d combine that with a cheap prepaid SIM for calls (if I didn’t have Digitec connect for 100 CHF/year)
Yes but speed is terrible, this is for IoT devices.
