Coronavirus: when do we reach the bottom of the dip?

That is why I added the other metrics.

Hospitalisations, deaths, incidence of older age groups and positivity rate are also worse than before the first lockdown.

Edit:

With hospitalisations, it is not certain, that the situation is worse right now, but it is likely.

Is this statement really true? Hospitals are full. Maybe the death rates are low, but the severity of the illness is higher, so are the complications after.

By the way, after this winter I will be very excited to see regular flu statistics. With masks & disinfection fluids at every corner, it has to have an effect.

I do understand that everybody is cautious with Covid, and every single death case is a personal tragedy. But at the end in average around 1’200 people are dying every week in Switzerland.

For sure, because a lot of people are not using the masks properly and therefor the risks for other viruses to grow and prosper (Rhinovirus, Coronavirus, Influenzavirus) within your mask is immense.

That’s a bold statement. Countries are rolling out mask requirement outdoors, I assume these decisions are made by experts, who know what they’re doing?

When I expressed my personal doubts before, I was put into a corner. There are many links to experiments showing the positive effect of masks, so…

My little brother got tested positive yesterday. He had to do the test due to flu symptoms. Saw him a week ago, on the day my parents left for a vacation. Me and my GF feel good, so hopefully we weren’t infected.

The numbers really don’t lie if people around you get tested positive. I hope this will be over in a couple of months.

+1 on that, it’s much “closer” now than in March. An uncle of mine got tested positive too and I hear more friends that know direct cases than before.

Depending on timeline, don’t you need to get tested/isolate? (there’s like 50% asymptomatic carrier, esp. among younger people)

Doctor told him that he was infectious from Tuesday this week, so 2 days after we met. His girlfriend got tested negative, despite being in close contact to him (I guess they even had sex).

If you don’t have a lot of symptoms, it probably means that your immune system is handling it quite well. Leading to less viral density and thus less chance of infecting others. I guess that’s why they say that kids can’t infect adults.

Around 70% of positive cases don’t infect anyone.

That is why backward contact tracing (finding out who inected him) would be so effective, you would quickly find the few people who infect many others.

Of course this only works if the recources for contact tracing are available.

Well if we omit US and a possible third wave like you mention, we are in Europe at the beginning of a second wave and based on what happened back in March with the first wave, we are again near at an all-time high and will in my opinion see some big dip in 1 to 2 weeks time when the states of each country take more drastic measures affecting businesses. Just my opinion here but yes history (or mistakes) repeats itself like one says …

Age distribution of new cases in Switzerland as well as daily new cases on a log axis:

Growth of new cases to the prior week in Switzerland:

The virus definitely seems more “real” compared to the first wave. A friend just informed me about being positive. I’ve met him last week. I’m now in home office but my doctor and the nearest hospital currently don’t have the capabilities to get me tested…

I’m really curious about the next few weeks. What’s going to happen? Will the stock market react in any way?

Yea. TUI up +5.5%, Cineworld +7% today. Don’t expect anything rational or logical from the market. Think long term only.

Larger economies (France, Spain, UK, US, …) have already starting to feel the impact of the 2nd (or 3rd wave), not sure the situation in Switzerland is going to impact the markets that much (and it’s likely already priced).

we should rename this thread “Coronavirus: when do we reach the peak?”

Sounds a lot like Sweden’s approach. Did not end well for many old Svenssons.

Any details? How many? Is it true that life goes on in Sweden and they are not recording any record cases/death like we are?

They did have some measures though, they just never went full lockdown:
