I think they do model some sort of currency movements which gets reflected in the calculations

But indeed the CHF denominated returns look quite low versus other currencies.

Isn’t it because higher rates should also drive capital into US bonds which if bought by foreigners/foreign capital drive the FX.

This whole FX stuff is very complex
Thank god I don’t try to trade currencies

Nah, it’s very true. We live life at our own risk. It’s also our own profits and I’m not sharing mine. :smiling_face_with_horns:

Isn‘t this racist? Real question.

Really?
I always thought it was an acronym like FANG and it’s used all the times in Europe.

I had no idea of it being derogatory in nature.

Wikipedia says fo sho (so would be the GIPSI one)

PIGS is a derogatory acronym that has been used to designate the economies of the Southern European countries of Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Spain. During the European debt crisis of 2009–14 the variant PIIGS, or GIPSI, was coined to include Ireland

Okay
So I coined a new acronym-:

IGPS (Italy , Greece, Portugal, Spain)

I personally couldn’t care less as a Greek but yeah some people have thinner skin.

FANG is derogatory too. It portrays tech companies as slithering snakes, or maybe vampires sucking your blood.

Yes. People can get offended by anything. Now I’m going to cancel you.

What exactly cancelling mean?
:joy:

I’ve also never seen FANG, only FAANG, which seems not so obviously a word. Or am I confusing meanings?

“To cancel someone” means to publicly and often vocally reject them, stop supporting them, and encourage others to do the same, often due to perceived wrongdoing or offensive statements. This term is particularly associated with “cancel culture,” a phenomenon where individuals, especially celebrities, face public backlash and ostracism for their actions or words.

Ahh got it
Like US admin is now cancelling Harvard.

Well, who wants to be called a PIG?
Especially when it comes from the “rich” towards the “poor”

No offense to the cute animal

No that’s not it, I am wondering if you’re joking, how can you not know cancel culture? Cancelling Harvard would be if the US govt would go into a massive social media crusade to say that anything ever done by Harvard, or someone who studied/worked/knows the name “Harvard” is the most vile crime against humanity in history. What they’re doing is basically continuing the rhetoric of “foreigners and people we don’t like bad” and as clearly it isn’t really working with other countries (who’d have thunk) they are looking at bullying closer to home. One thing (among many) the Americans do well is inheriting and expanding the Brits’ love for private members’ clubs. Harvard is a big one so I am sure they US admin will tread lightly as there’s a big and diverse and powerful group of people around the US and world who love Harvard and may start taking a dimmer view of the US govt if they are bullying their alma mater.

I’ll give two examples, one bad and one good: a) a public figure says/does/writes something that offends someone, somewhere, this someone makes it their life crusade to hound said public figure and try to get more people to do that, also disregarding/trashing (ie “cancelling”) any and every appreciable thing they’ve ever done and calling it “-ist trash”; b) a public figure does something objectively immoral/criminal which results in them being blacklisted (ie “cancelled”) from anything public.

Wear it with pride, man. Pigs are practical (and delicious) animals. No really, I mean it and I’m not particularly patriotic. Let them call us whatever they want, letting go of any care of what anyone other than 10-15 people (at most) think about me was the best thing ever.

I think these posts are flying too close to the (mod) sun

It seems US EU trade deal will also become a complex one soon. Following seems to be the situation

  1. US will not let go of 10% tariffs
  2. US is threatening that if EU does not make unilateral tariff reductions for US goods , then tariff will go to 20%
  3. EU wants even the 10% to go away as a part of any deal

Time for the Clash of the titans round 2. Not sure if individual countries in EU will be united or due to inner fights EU will end up getting a UK type „great deal“

I always thought cancel culture refers to people committing to come to an event and then cancelling last minute with lame excuses.

Recently I started hearing it on news but somehow continued to assume that it’s something to do with Not showing up

Now I understand it’s actually a different thing

Cancelling, in the context of cancel culture, means withdrawing support (often publicly) from a person or company after they have said or done something considered offensive or problematic. This can involve boycotts, online shaming, and calls for the person to be fired from their job or deplatformed (banned from social media).

The aim is to silence the person and hurt them financially.

Example: A celebrity makes a racist joke on social media. People organize a boycott of their movies and sponsors drop them due to the backlash.
