Any PC/gaming enthusiasts?

No, they both have Swiss web pages, but the first is German, the second German/British. The items get shipped from Germany and the UK respectively. Mifcom writes on their page that they will handle everything, PCSpecialist customer service assured me that they would, but there are some conflicting accounts, for example in their forum.

I’d be happy enough to order from Mifcom, but the RTX 3070 there costs at least 744 CHF, for example, and the 6800, 6800XT and 3080 are all priced above 1000 CHF. Most are out of stock as well.

Hence me looking for alternatives / experiences with vendors.

If I was looking for gaming PC I’d go for Jouleperformance.ch too by now. However I usually assemble my PCs myself and just get the parts from digitec.ch but yeah Graphicscard and CPU availability is very bad right now.

Jouleperformance.ch has a great looking site, but you can’t configure your PC there or did I miss that?

Seems relatively reasonable, it seems that you don’t need to put a GPU in the order and can order them separately. They will even put in the cabling. The same is true for ssds.

  • Gehäuse: SilentiumPC - Signum SG1X TG RGB | Glasfenster <-- some “free” fans
  • CPU (Prozessor): AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 6x 3.7GHz, 32MB L3-Cache Jetzt korrigieren
  • Mainboard: MSI B550 Gaming Plus | AMD B550
  • Grafikkarte: Keine Grafikkarte | Bitte CPU-Details prüfen! Jetzt korrigieren
  • Arbeitsspeicher 32GB DDR4-3000 Corsair Vengeance LPX | 4x 8GB
  • CPU-Kühler: Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B | 120mm PWM-Lüfter

This adds up to around 900 chf without the GPU. I put in the 4x8gb ram because there is some reporting that two single rank ram sticks don’t give the same performance as two dual rank ram sticks or four single rank ram sticks. But I haven’t looked more into it.

I would add a RTX 3070 or RX 6800 to it and a ssd, although I’m not up to speed about them either, Samsung SSDs(non-QLX) are usually good but you pay a premium for the same performance as other ssds. The whole system should be 1500-1600 chf.

As a start I usually use Alternate or Caseking, both in Germany to play with the great configuration tool and see where the price lands at the end.

That’s a very interesting build, thanks!

Gets me thinking, the problem is indeed the graphics card. If I buy that separately and put it in myself I should get a better price. How difficult you think is it to install a graphics card for someone who has never done that before?

Regarding the mainboard, would a X570 chipset be worth it? More PCIe 4.0 (don’t need), better cooling (do I need that with a Ryzen 5600?), WIFI (that’s missing in your built, right?)

And the processor cooler, do I need an extra one or does one come with the processor?

Interesting, thanks! They don’t have the new Ryzen processors yet and graphic cards are thin on the ground as well. Fantastic quote for a 3080 at Caseking though, 570 EUR! If only it were in stock (delivery date is “unknown”)…

It’s super easy, if you want to check just have a look on YouTube and there are plenty of videos how to build a PC.

In fact I think building is trivial nowadays, and the more difficult part may be the choice of components that are compatible with each other (technology, clearances, etc.)… but even then you could use the configurator and then buy on digitec as someone suggested.

You can tell them which GPU you will buy and they will prepare the cabling. Then it is pretty easy.

Note that there isn’t a ssd either, you would need to add that as well, but that is also pretty easy and should be not much work. (you can also add a ssd on their site, but the ssds seem to be around 20% more expensive than on digitec)

Afterwards you would also need to put windows on a stick and install it.

The B550 is already a pretty high end board. I would recommend to use cable and not wlan, but you can always buy an adapter. In my recommendation, there is already a CPU cooler.

Thanks both! That sounds like a great project for the Christmas break. Now, the only thing needed is to actually be able to buy stuff. Let’s hope that stock levels will improve next week when the partner 6800/6800XT cards hit the market…

I agree.

20 years ago, when I was young and built my own computers, you had to use jumpers to set certain parameters. If you got some of them wrong, you could fry your entire system.

The only thing you should/could be afraid of are:

  • Static electricity: I’ve never used any bracelet myself, I just take care and “ground” myself by touching something grounded.
  • Ryzen Motherboards: I am not sure if it’s sitll the case, but if the lot of your MB is “old-ish”, it might not be compatible with the latest CPU and you need an old cpu to update the bios with it or buy a MB with a cpu-less update mode. The manufacturers are bad here since it’s not that clear what lot you buy, but I suppose now they are all updated.
  • Hard to reach screws: that doesn’t happen anymore I believe
  • Airflow and beauty: You need to comb your cables to make it beautiful/airflow-y

Just a note because we talked about 2 / 4 ram sticks earlier in this thread: Ryzen 5000 series seems to perform better with 4 sticks over 2 based on multiple independent tests (even though the platform does not support Quad-Channel memory).

Thus, I will probably go for 4x8 GB. But as I said previously I’m waiting for January/February because of the availability of parts. It’s not looking good right now and maybe I will wait even longer.

https://youtu.be/-UkGu6A-6sQ looks like you’re right… And there go my plans for a mini ITX small form factor PC.

2x32GB and 4x16GB should give the same performance because 32GB sticks are usually dual rank.

2x32GB might not even be much more expensive and the only option if you go for a mini-itx build.

PC1 for mining almost ready… yep, ca. 4 GPUs missing (I’m still looking for used RX 5700 or Radeon VII)

PC2 my gaming machine… quite open, just a Ryzen 3900X is set.

BTW. I like my open wooden PC case, for up to 4 computers. Hornbach for 19.95 CHF… Unbeatable.

Wohoo I got my GeForce RTX 3080 yesterday and installed it today. Haven’t played anything yet tho (working…).

What kind of PSU power do you use with your RTX 3080? Heard that the new series, especially the 3090 drains a lot of power…

I have a 750W PSU which is the recommended minimum iirc.
