Hi, I am looking for some examples of a Yearly spending for a familly of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids). I noticed that my expenses keep increasing and I am interested in some benchmark. For instance: grocery budget, Health insurances, holidays… I am basically trying to control better my expenses. Thank you.
Kudos for the topic.
We’re a family of 4. Kids are 3-6.
I don’t have exact numbers. We did track every single expense a couple years back for like 6 months. On review, we found out that we don’t have expenses that were really out of the ordinary or we would regret, so we’ve decided to not do the detailed tracking anymore.
Some specific and rough numbers to follow:
Rent : 5.5 room, in BL. 2720
Insurance: 1080. Kids lowest deductibles, adults highest deductible at sanitas.
Holidays: between 15k-20k year. 2-3 weeks of skiing and a week or two of hiking/beach in the summer.
Groceries: we cook 99% both because we’re plant based and would be hard to even find variety and is a nice on the pockets as well.
As a rough estimate. With clothing and everything.
We’re spending low ~7k+ net, for an yearly 80-90k~.
There’s a thread on this topic
We are also a family of 4 (2 adults, children 6 and 1 (and 4 cats)). Currently i don’t have exact numbers, but spending too much.
Taxes: 1700
Groceries: 1000
Childcare: 1000
Mortgage and Amortisation: 900
Health insurance: 900
Holidays: 650
Will add more numbers, but these are the highest categories.
I wouldn’t count taxes as expenses - not that much you can do about them (other than move)
Your numbers don’t seem “too much” to me.
Tax is an expense. It might not be a discretionary one, but not all expenses are discretionary.
