**We didn’t say for how much so please check our pricing-PDF document to know how much you can purchase with this “”“flat”“” fee of CHF 3…

According to a report from Finanzdepot, the 0.85 real-time fee has been eliminated.

I can confirm that

I can confirm that Swissquote no longer charges the CHF 0.85 real-time price fee since February or March 2024.

As I mentioned in my post you’re referencing, this supposed change was reported by Finanzdepot:

The report has been corrected in the meantime, the fee is still being applied.

To avoid creating a new dedicated discussion and since this concerns a Swiss broker, Swissquote has introduced (at least in its app) the Debit Card Elite plan at 39 CHF per month, available for accounts with at least 100K CHF invested.

While the cost seems too high for regular use, it’s interesting to note that this premium tier includes free currency conversion. Too bad this benefit isn’t available for the more affordable plans…

Do they define what the free currency conversion means? (what is the spread? )

Looking at Alpian where they charge 0.25% for currency conversion between CHF, GBP. USD and Euro. I think it’s quite decent price as there is no limit on how much is exchanged

39 CHF per month at SQ would mean 15600 CHF to be converted every month to be break even.

At Swissquote, the break-even point is even lower, as the conversion rate is 0.95%. The threshold is reached from CHF 4,100 in monthly conversions.

Another interesting point I just noticed is their 0.5% cashback offer on margin trading as well as on gold. I assume this involves a placement with a partner, such as a gold ETF, since I can hardly imagine receiving a micro gold bar at home every month - or even at the end of the year.

The spread is not specified, but since this is a Mastercard debit card, I assume the conversion rate would be the one provided by Mastercard.

Is the free currency conversion only for payments, or also for transfer between accounts in the context of trading?

They distinguish between transaction fees and conversion fees. There are no fees for transactions. As for conversion fees, they are free up to a monthly limit of 5´000 francs, after which fees apply. Please refer to the offer conditions for more details :

Hi There

I’m about to move some of my assets from IBKR to Postfinance, mainly VT.

While going through some threads here (e.g. W-8BEN on your own & 30% withhold, Filling in the DA-1, …) there are still questions I have in reclaiming withheld dividends:

→ Can anyone with VT at Postfinance confirm, that one can reclaim 100% of the withheld dividends?

Are there 2x 15% withheld from dividends, that one can reclaim with DA-1 and R-US?

If not, how is the situation with withheld dividends of VT at PF?

Thx

If following is true

  • you have been able to recoup 100% of tax (withheld at IBKR) using DA 1 until now while your assets were at IB
  • you have filled W8BEN properly at PF

The following will also be true

  • you will be able to recoup 100% of tax withheld at PF using DA1 & RUS

In other words -: DA1 portion is equivalent for both brokers and RUS portion at PF will be credited completely at time of filing tax returns .

I can confirm it works.

Also I think w8ben might be implicit (check after one dividend cycle, it should clearly show the separate 15%)

How does one file the W-8BEN in PF?

Ignore it, I suspect you’ll get the right rate if they have you as swiss tax resident and non US person.

I am not sure if there is specifically a form or just that fact that you declare yourself as Swiss tax resident & a non-US person is enough.

My knowledge is more theoretical as I don’t hold any US ETFs in my Swiss brokerage account. I use only UCITS ETFs there.

Key point to verify though is if PF is considered a qualified intermediary. I know Swissquote is.

Yes to both @nabalzbhf @Abs_max, I wondered myself if it’s even needed given I declared I’m not a US taxpayer or have any affiliation with the US, and I’m only liable for taxation in CH when I opened the account. I also don’t hold US ETFs, but may do in the future so I’d be interested to know. I reckon a message to support would solve the question, they’re usually pretty fast with responding.
