32 y.o., single, work in tech. Second pillar not included, and I don’t have a third pillar.
The last couple of years have not been great. I lost focus on FIRE and spent liberally on stuff that didn’t make me happy, which you can see reflected in my saving rate. I also let my health slip. On top of that, in 2025 I tried to time the market due to fear (I know, I know, I’m plenty angry at myself for it) and basically wiped out all gains from a pretty good year for VT. Around the beginning of the year I sat down to look at my numbers and regained some focus, and I’m glad to say that this year is going fairly well: I’ve been cutting down on unnecessary expenses and I’m on track to reach a ~40% saving rate; additionally I’ve started to work on my health, career, and hobbies. I still need to find the energy to gather all the crap I bought and don’t use, and attempt to sell it on the second-hand market, especially a motorcycle I no longer have a license for and which has been sitting around for years, costing me money.
I’m mainly writing in the hope that this will be an accountability tool that helps me stay the course. I’ll probably only do one or two updates a year.
