Is that Long Term Value?
Life time value.
A friend of mine showed me a embarrassing bug on Neon’s system.
If you send someone money and put in the description something like “SBB whatever”, they will receive the money and show it as it came from SBB!
Since Neon doesn’t even show the source in IBAN format (big issue imho!), your friend will be puzzled as to why SBB sent them that money.
tbh these two things are kind of a big issue to me. The bug is hilariously bad, but the fact that you don’t see the source iban is a serious unfeature (or maybe I’m to old to understand those modern software).
Now that I think of it, this is the third time I think I need to change bank (the other two were the dumb bold number on the statements and the 0% interests).
You want to switch banks because they use bold text in their statements?
I find it dumb because they are less readable. It’s just annoying of course not the reason to switch.
OK, on that I agree. Bolding has its advantages, but those are usually lost if you Bold All The Things.
At least you can export statements as CSV.
It is the case for many banks, by experience. However I agree, they should always display the IBAN from where the payment was made, easier to return the money, etc.
These are not the only reasons why this “bank” is bad and incompetent.
- App regularly crashes on the 25th or you can’t get in
- uses Bern stock exchange with a ridiculous spread (you can see it every time the savings plan is executed) and ridiculous selection of shares
- Savings account 0% interest (as mentioned)
- Maintenance work in broad daylight, apparently nobody can work there at night
I only use Neon for purchases in foreign currency, but there are cheaper alternatives.
This is addressed with update 6.1.6 from December 13th, it now shows the sender’s IBAN under additional information!

To stay on topic: today neon , or as they say “their partner bank”, has delays with payments.
I wonder if they should change bank. Neon is successful and the most annoying issues are related to their partner (delays and the infamous “sbb” issue)

Interesting. Any reasons (or speculations) why this happened?
Maybe they will implement their Twint solution?
They switched from Mastercard Prepaid to Mastercard Debit.
I have a different credit card anyway (Swisscard Cashback) and use that with Twint.
For all those who wonder whether all the payments from yesterday have been executed by their peasants partner bank yet - they have not.
Here I see that they have all been fullfilled. Even those incoming. Also I’ve tested again the SBB trick and I can confirm that it’s still wrong, but at least I see the IBAN.
I did try to send money to a friend and putting UBS on the field to see if it’s not limited to SBB, but didn’t get the same result.
Anyone would like to experiment with other companies? I wonder if they can be sued for this.
Tbh I wouldn’t like to be Neon’s ceo now. They probably can’t switch bank even if they probably would love at this point…
Yesterday, my standing orders were executed ca. 2pm. Funny, my 2 non-standing orders were executed within 10 min in the morning.
I sent money to IBKR yesterday and it arrived less than 30 minutes later despite the warning.
I didn’t have any problems with incoming or outgoing payments as well.
I’ve been using neon as my primary account for over a year now:
- there was only one time I wasn’t able to log in
- pre-announced maintenance was usually 1800-2400 or similar, happened about 2-3 times
- I didn’t even notice that it wasn’t possible to see the IBAN of incoming payments; this was pointed out by someone in this thread about a week before they fixed that.
- I try to automate as much as possible: salary comes in, bills get paid via standing orders, eBill and LSV. When I log in, it is is usually to check if everything is working as planned, which it always did.
