Coronavirus: when do we reach the bottom of the dip?

Well, some stocks will look a lot less attractive without dividends.

You didn’t know? In Switzerland we are immune to diseases, wars, crises, inflation, etc. We have all possible contingency plans, anti-atomic shelters, a super-tip-top organized army. So why should we bother  ?

Companies who are suffering for loss of income would look much more attractive with dividends.

Attractive to bankruptcy lawyers

I don’t know what to do about my GF. This could wreck her.

I also did some shopping. Not much though - 60 VT at 59.45.

Really feel sorry, she couldn’t predict this. I wonder if it would be possible to sign a rent contract, which would stop the payments in case of a lockdown or similar. Or to insure yourself against it.

Just bought another 100 shares at 59.00
I have an open limit order at 58.00, but I guess it won’t trigger today.

I understood there were going to be financial measures to counter this crisis especially for small entrepreneurs.
Then again printing money is not without consequences, but what else are we going to do.

Sorry to hear that mate. If I can help somehow, let me now on PM.

I managed to get 100 VT at 58.33

What I don’t understand is why BAG is not publishing the number of cases anymore.
Are the numbers that bad?
Don’t they think that hiding the numbers will look worse than being transparent?

(maybe this is their strategy to make people realize that the situation is grave
)

EDIT: ah, they just changed their strategy. Now they just say “More than 2200 cases”

We are just hoping that they stick to this date! If she can’t reopen on April 20th and the government keeps everything closed for more weeks or even months, her new business will close for good. I feel so bad for her! She started it in August 2019 and was about to pay off all loans in May this year because it went so good and now this

Right now I don’t give a damn at what prices I’m buying my ETFs.

Can somebody explain the BAG reports to me?

14.3.2020, 10.30 am:
Tested positive: 1359
Confirmed: 1188

15.3.2020, 1.15 pm:
Tested positive: 2200
Confirmed: 1563

16.3.2020, 5.45 pm:
Tested positive: more than 2200
Confirmed: 1680

What leads from a positive test to a confirmed case? Why do they conceal information now? More than 2200? Meaning 2201 or 3000? All other websites, like Wikipedia, point to BAG as source, so I would like to know how will we keep track now, when they are so vague?
15.03: 2200
16.03: more than 2200
17.03: like, A LOT
18.03: stop asking, ok?

AFAIK there’s a central lab rerunning the tests to confirm the cases (why do they bother?). I don’t know if it can keep up. Maybe check each cantons data, they’re probably publishing stuff as well.

In any case no reason to believe the rate has slown down, so likely still doubling every 2-3 days, so at least 2.8k, but criterias for testing are so strict, I’m not even sure what the number means.

Even after a week of full country lockdown, Italy’s rate is not yet decreasing (hoping it will soon tho
).

Why would they slash the public transport capacity in half?

This is probably the single worst decision yet.

So infection to onset is ~5 days, so should see Italy hopefully start to drop soon. But onset to death is weeks, so that’s probably still going to get much worse for fatalities

Incomprehensible. Also, those numbers are not representative anyway. Switzerland has decided not to test basically.
I can attest this first hand, went to a “triage” tent today with symptoms (fever, cough) and a clear contact (my office colleague has tested positive), so very likely positive myself and they sent me home without taking a swab since I’m not at risk (not old, no immunocompromised). Not arguing with the strategy, just stating the fact that the number of positive cases in Switzerland, even if released, won’t mean much anyway.

Whoa
and did they put you in quarantine? Did they order you to stay home? Wish you lots of health!

My gf seems to have caught cold. She has runny nose, sore throat, and light fever. Not your typical CV symptoms. Still, when she reported that at work they said she HAS TO get tested, because of the character of her work. She called the number, they told her there is no need / way to get tested.

They told me to stay home, which was anyway what I was going to do. I am doing well, I went to get checked mostly for my wife.

I guess from their point of view they will tell you to stay at home anyway (positive or not), so they won’t test unless your symptoms get really severe. I don’t want to argue against this choice because it really depends on the testing capability which might be rather low so they need to prioritize. But this also means that those numbers of positive cases in CH are waaaaaay lower than the real estimate.

At the Bundesrat press conference at 18:00 or so, there was a question why yesterday +700 cases & today only +130? The BAG head said the 130 is the number they have now, because many labs have not reported in time.
I assume they chose to make the published result “>2200” instead of 2330 as the latter would be wrong & misleading.
