Coronavirus: when do we reach the bottom of the dip?

Why possibly add more then? We need to SLOW DOWN the spread, if we don’t want to see people denied the care they need at the hospitals.

What is happening now in italy is basically russian rulette. The doctors have to decide who is dying by deciding which one can use the only machine left in the hospital. Try to tell your family that your relative died because at some point during his life he was around a young person that didn’t suffer much for the virus…

Exactly that is the problem! They are walking the streets, while they should not. Everyone having symptoms should stay at home for 10-14 days and only do what he really must do. Listen to a specialist if you don’t want to listen to us. https://www.nzz.ch/schweiz/coronavirus-gesundheitssystem-droht-kollaps-wie-in-italien-ld.1545760

and here some latest news on how mild your symptoms can be, while you are still spreading a looooot of viruses. Coronavirus: Menschen mit leichten Symptomen sind schon infektiös

What do you mean, add more? If you simply close the border then the people will go do other things within their own country.

OK, I’m not yet up to speed with the whole terminology of lockdown etc :stuck_out_tongue:

What do you mean, I don’t get it. I can save messages just fine.

MAybe don’t frame me into something I didn’t say ok? Thank you. I didn’t say you should walk around or travel with symptoms. I’m just saying, as long as people are allowed to leave home, they will go and do something, I don’t see how closing the border would help. It’s just a “cover your ass” kind of measure. It’s too late for closing the border. That’s what Ursula van der Leyen said in response to Trumps travel ban for EU. She said it’s irresponsible, we’re in this together and Trump’s decision doesn’t help…

I agree that Trumps decision does not directly help, but it sends a very strong Signal that this is a very serious case. When did US close their border for Europe the last time? It hopefully helps people in the US to realize that they should have a close look at Italy and better stay at home. It surely helped me to understand the situation.

Also shutting down single cantons, or cities can not help or do anything because it is simply impossible to control each and every guy. But it helps the people to understand that it is serious. Therefore everyone should stop thinking about his own ass and do what’s best for him and the group as a whole. And someone that thinks ahh you know it does not matter anymore, I just go to Austria, if everyone acts like that, the spreading increases and healthcare system breaks down, if everyone would decide to reduce unnecessary activites we can cope with it. But sure we could also say, ahhh let’s test our health care system for its robustness.

good point, in this context it might make sense.

It’s time people without symptoms stay home as much as possible, too. You can spread the virus BEFORE you start developing symptoms. That’s why all over Italy you can’t go out unless you have a pressing reason: go to work, go shopping for food and medicaments, etc. I am not sure why the Swiss authorities have not yet closed schools and the like.

From a friend who has connections to Bern, they are discussing it now. I don’t know how SMI will react to that if they really pull it through?

The reason for not closing schools actually makes sense imo.
They don’t want that the kids stay at home because in most cases the parents would still have to go to work. That’d mean that grandparents would take care of the children.
As we all know, senior citizens are far more likely to die because of the virus.

Isn’t China supposed to be doing well/up?

As i like to say, in times of crisis, only one thing goes up: correlation.

The only way to stop this is to stay at home. Stay at home.
“But… but… if I can go to the supermarket then why can’t I also go to the gym or the restaurant?”. Because the purpose is to minimise contacts between people to the minimum. You need food to survive, you do not need to lift weights. It sucks, but isolation and social distancing work and they are the only way to slow down the epidemic.
No cinema, no theatres, no restaurants, no gym, etc… Stay at home and wait for the storm to pass.

The growth of the infection is almost identical in every country. Switzerland is just few days behind Italy but the ratio of growth starting from the first infection is basically the same. I don’t understand how countries have the luxury to see what’s happening in Italy (or happened in China), and say “whatever, it will not get like that here”.
IT WILL, 100%. Pretending it is not a problem does not make it go away. Most countries had a head-start and still decided to do nothing.
Stay. The fuck. At home.
