Can I see in the monthly bills of AMEX if a transaction was not issued in CHF and got charged additional fees?
Because so far I’ve only seen it twice when I forgot to change my credit cards and paid in SEK in Sweden.
Yes, it is stated very clearly.
Has anyone experienced issues with Swisscard AMEX cards where the card started to get denied everywhere? For some reason my card keeps getting denied randomly at places, like Coop, where it is accepted the day before and the day after.
And of course there is no ‘free’ customer service to actually complain about it.
Contactless payment? If yes, then put the card in the slot, pay once and then it might work again.
Had that happening twice already…
I only use it with Apple Pay at contactless payment terminals. Apart from AMEX not being accepted at lots of places, it worked flawlessly so far.
The issue happens both with contactless payments and when using slots - the card gets denied in both cases.
Though online payments, e.g. purchases via SBB app, work without issues.
Interesting. The same happens with the Swisscard Master or Visa Card that you got in the package? Or its only the AMEX that makes trouble?
The Swisscard customer service hotline is printed on the back of the Amex card. You can call them, they’ll sort you out quickly.
Had an issue last week and received very professional and fast resolution to it.
I had the same issue, over months it would randomly work or not work without clear cause. In the same store, it sometimes worked and sometimes not.
This is what made me switch to the Certo card, as it was just too much of a hassle (on top of AMEX itself…)
For our shared card we use Certo as well. Only pain is they don’t support eBill.
I’d probably ask for a new card or something like that.I’ve had 0 issues with my Amex.
The only “issue” I have is the same I have with a visa. Sometimes it gives up immediately if I don’t fully take the card outside it’s protection.
I’ve been using AMEX Swisscard for some months now and I am positively surprised. Works well, especially for groceries and SBB, so I get a decent amount of cashback with little to no work due to e-bill. Now I am wondering if I can expand the usage.
This is probably a silly question but is there any possibility of using AMEX for invoices as well? My biggest expenditures are rent and health care but I could not find a way to change the payment to credit card. I haven’t used credit cards before so I just want to make sure unless I can change from invoice to credit card, I can’t use it.
You have services to pay QR-payslips with credit cards, but the fees will be higher than your cashback rate.
Interesting, thanks. Good thing I asked, I’ll skip this then.
Has anybody experience with returns? I will try to use the AMEX card also for more online purchases but especially with clothing I often have returns. So I wonder if the reimbursement of the value and cashback works well or if it is more work than the monetary benefit?
If you get reimbursement, you won’t get cashback obviously. (At least this is my understanding.) But otherwise reimbursements work well in my hands.
Just be cautious about your attempts to “expand the use of the AMEX”. You save 1% at SBB, Coop, etc., but if you happen to pay to someone that is not located in Switzerland (even when paying CHF) more fees can arise, and then you quickly lose all your saved cashback. I’ve heard from online-shops that appeared to be Swiss from the domain (.ch) but in the end they were not.
Rent you won’t be able to pay, as the cashback you receive comes from part of the fees the vendor pays to AMEX. And no agency would ever accept giving up part of the rental income for this.
