About us - Financial Independence for Swiss people, by Swiss people

I hope this to be a light weight discussion and collection of different views. No right or wrong answer.

The about us section of this forum describes the objective as “Financial Independence for Swiss people, by Swiss people”

As a Swiss citizen, I very much feel as part of Swiss people.
How do you feel about this? Do you feel as Swiss people? I’m especially wondering about citizens of other countries in this forum. Or maybe also Swiss citizens living abroad. Or maybe even Swiss citizens in Switzerland. I’m honestly curious.

I wouldn’t have dared posting here before getting my citizenship. That’s good selection though, we swiss people are so much better.

There is not many Swiss people here, and there is the vibe of „lets make money, dont care about side effects to society like RE prices, welfare system, … and then leave again“. Personally, beeing Swiss as well. I do struggle a bit with the mindset of some contributors here.

It is interesting to note that the concept of social solidarity is often interpreted differently depending on one’s cultural background. Some people might see systems like the RAV as something that should be used regardless of whether or not there is actual financial need, for example by claiming benefits even when a person has substantial personal wealth. In my social circle, however, there is a perception that relying on such services can be a source of social pressure and may be seen as a personal shortcoming. It is my understanding that these social safety nets are designed to act as worst-case insurances. If everyone immediately claimed the services they paid for without genuine need, I am afraid the entire system would collapse.

Or something that is due to them as soon as they lose their job. Come on, they’ve paid for it!

In some (not so successful) countries, it’s even seen by some as very normal and natural, if you work long enough then you can benefit from long vacations every x months, that’s just how society works, and you pay for it while working. In their mindset.

Or health care aka I pay my monthly bill and can use the health services unlimited. Yeah, guess why the premiums are increasing…

I would imagine it was meant as “for Swiss residents, by Swiss residents”. Maybe @_MP can confirm?

I agree that it would not make sense to present this forum as “by Swiss citizens” given how many non-citizen contribute to and benefit from this forum.

And since we’re on the swissness side of stuff,

THIS is not Swiss.

Languages do not have flags!

And this UI mistake is mostly done by non-swiss companies on their swiss websites.

This flag is offending, actually. But lets not get there

How else are languages indicated with icons? I’ve seen this everywhere and curious as to what the alternative is?

Where is everywhere?

DE | FR | IT are standard and widely used without icons.

Check every swiss financial service website often discussed here (3a, banks, brokers, insurances…)

I confirm (that my English is far from perfect  ).
I indeed intended to say “Swiss residents” to cover all usecases of our community.

Thanks @gaijin for spotting it, I now fixed it.
