First time I noticed this about the forum. I don’t feel anything about it, but I did wonder if a political bot had sneaked in seeing the thread title and before seeing the OP. Then I wondered if I’m allowed to post in this thread at all given I am a gaijinli. Not sure what type of opinions you’re after, it’s a good forum is my opinion, hence why I am here ![]()
I’ll bite.
RE prices? If swiss people care about RE prices they should stop complaining about every development, make it easier to build (and therefore cheaper), and generally reduce government influence there.
People buying a house are not responsible for increasing house prices any more than my morning coffee makes me responsible for the price of milk.
This sentence:
I would guess that’s what @TeaGhost meant. And that is actually something that sometimes bothers me too. Prices go up when there are more buyers. Tha’ts a fact. But that’s ok too.
It would be much more honest to say that it is what it is and stand by that, rather than saying things like, “I’m just a small fish, I’m not the one driving this” or “Others fly more than I do, it’s not my fault” (another example for a different topic). This doesn’t mean you have to change your behaviour, but simply that you can stand by what you do and what the consequences are.
We’re not using our real names here, so there’s no need to justify ourselves, which means we can be honest. Sometimes I miss a certain honesty here ![]()
For me this very quickly terms into a communism/capitalism conversation which I will avoid for everyone’s sake.
What is clear though is that prices are information. high prices is reality saying „make more of this“.
Simultaneously it was just decided that people shouldn’t have to pay tax on the equivalent rent value of the property they live in, meaning there’s less incentive for widowed retirees to leave their 5 room free standing home that they live in.
It’s crazy to say that rich foreigners are causing high house prices.
I just found the comment a bit unfair.
Also „prices go up when there are more buyers“ only when there isn’t more supply…
Demand/supply and stupid politics. But it is the same in all countries. Easy answer is to build more, but too many vested interests against building.
The removal of EmW was an unnecessary own-goal which will reduce incentives for efficient housing utilization at a time when housing is in short supply.
