Your Health Insurance in 2023

Update on my side: I finally got a reply to one of my messages saying the cards will be delivered by the end of January.

Best,
Don.

I was in CSS but moved this year to Helsana. Not very Mustachian because it’s more expensive, but I was annoyed with CSS limiting my family to doctors in (tiny) Canton Zug. In some cases, I need to consult specialists in Zurich, so I’ve changed to the first one that my friends recommended to me.

Got card and all logins already. Contract made Dec 19th.

Delays for new health insurance cards (admin.ch)

We got our cards today.

I got Helsana because of the fitness benefits: it covers up to 800 CHF (100%) per year, plus 75% after that. Also, other benefits like massage with recognised practitioners 100% reimbursed. I am paying about 720 CHF/year for that premium (only the premium)

Any recommendation for next year? I am quite happy with the fitness benefit since around my place there´s no much cheaper options.

is it covering also glasses, vaccines, dentist, etc?

It covers certain amount on glasses and vaccines. I think nothing about dentist.

Here you have all the benefits (I am not advertising tho…just want some advise):

I thought that Swica had good coverage/reimbursement, but Helsana seems better. I will take a deep look. Thanks

Edit: with swica I pay for similar services coverage around CHF 480/y (but for example for the fitness part is 300 or 500 based on the gym/activities)

Good for you! I eventually got my card too, this week.

Best
Don.

Hi everyone

is there an online calculator to assess the effective costs of health-related treatments in Switzerland?
I mean a tool were you can input the franchise, the type of request, i.e. a medical operation in a Hospital, and tells you how much it will this cost (out of your pocket)?

Many thanks.

Not sure if there is a calculator.

But my understanding is as follows:
it’s up to your franchise and then 10% of further cost until you reach cost of 7k (so 700.- out of your pocket) and on top you pay per night hospital <100.- no matter where you’re at with your franchise.

Thanks @MUFC_OK that’s confirm my understanding a part from the hospital part: is that on top regardless?

It’s 15 CHF per night on top of Franchise and Selbstbehalt.

I see @Erma, thank you.

It was announced that in 2023 there would be some increase in health insurance premiums, but I thought they would be in the range of ~5% point or so.

We found a ~15% increase by SWICA, I know it’s not the best for saving money, we may indeed now review our insurance choice.

What are your experiences and are you reviewing health insurance choices according to the latest increases?

I always switch to the cheapest possible plan of the cheapest insurance. I never used it so far, but I think the differences between providers can’t be too big. The basic insurance is regulated and standardized. I don’t have supplemental insurance.

Sorry but you are kind of 5 months late to the party.

Thanks, we dont optimize this expense that much indeed .
I thought now people would be more aware of the increases (including non-basic insurance products) compared to last year’s announcements.

Didn’t you receive this information last year in September/October already?
They must inform you about the new bill, so you have the chance to change to a different health insurance company.
