Your Health Insurance in 2023

@wavemotion @dbu
Yes that is correct, you can either call first to get medical-advice or go directly and call them to inform about your appointment.

Calling is not free (at least it wasn’t over the last few years), but not too expensive either and a bit cheaper after 7pm. I believe you pay per minute, yes.

Same here. I think it’s the important part, because the previous insurance otherwise can revert the cancellation.

@Luk_nuts
That is what I thought. I mean a doctor needs to answer, so it cannot be for free…but when I called the KPT number, the representative said for free…
Additionally he said that (with win.win) I can go anywhere and to any doctor (not specialist). Is this true?

Contacting the KPT representative is free.
Maybe that’s what they meant.
Or maybe they really made it free now, which I’d take as well.

Yes, that is correct (we also have win.win). You could even go directly to a specialist, but in most cases those want you transfered from a general doctor.
Just don’t forget to announce the appointment to Medi24 (before or right after in urgent cases), so they can open a “appointment-window” in their system.
If you miss that part, they can give you a penalty for it.

So in summary, you can either decide to call, to have an expert’s opinion on the matter, or you can decide yourself to see any doctor, but need to announce the appointment.

@DonDraper I signed up for KPT and still haven’t received anything… Not even a bill, hopefully will receive something this week

interesting @belouga13 .
In the meamtime I tried to register for the KPTnet but got a reply via email telling me that the credentials should arrive via post…I guess by the 31.12.

I got the login and the bill today but not the card yet. I signed up at the very end of November. So maybe they started from the last registrations

I didn’t get anything. I suppose next year will start with a big mess and two insurances :frowning:

@ma0 Me neither… I just went on their website and clicked “get new login”, and on the page they posted this (however it’s not clear when those 4 weeks are from. I signed up for their insurance end of october…):

Information importante pour les nouveaux clients à partir de 2023

Vous n’avez pas besoin de vous enregistrer, vous recevrez votre login pour le portail clients KPTnet et l’app KPT dans les 4 semaines à venir.

Veuillez en outre noter que vous recevrez la police et la facture de la KPT par courrier.

I was already a customer for the additional insurance so I have the login, but I can’t see anything new.
I might call them just to see what’s going on.

The added bonus with SWICA is that the payments to one or the other (Lmal or complementary) are both used to reduce the overall franchise. Nice advantage I find but only a true benefit when you actually get sick when you have high franchise to lower the premiums like me…

In these cases (currently in the orthodontics ) I actually like this way of working as much for my relationship with the doctor as well. I work better having a « devis » before committing 3-5 years of payments. Obviously not always possible but definitely makes the process more fluid for everyone once it’s signed off.

Ok, I’m still reading up the thread as I’ve taken this as my focus area to better understand/save this year, but I’ll give my current situation now:

Pre-2019: Group Mutuel/Universa
(since arriving in Switzerland)

Since-2019 : SWICA
(Both LMal and Complementary)

So far I’ve preferred to keep adults (2) and kids (2) together at the same insurer for simplicity and have as such also kept each LMal and complementary together.

I am using 2500 deductibles but no other Telmed or anything (yet). I’m healthy, male, mid-40s, Neuchatel, no accident insurance (already covered at work).

I’m now looking to first better evaluate all the options at my current insurer while I educate myself on the process on changing potentially every year* between insurers.

*Side note: My wife was sick just after I switched to SWICA so not possible to change complementary insurances anymore for her (in full remission since :+1:t2:). So while I have no experience in changing insurers to save on premiums, I am really happy with the real life experience with SWICA when we actually needed insurance: cancer sucks and it was really nice to have zero issues with payments even on the «extras» like gene testing for our kids (negative :+1:t2:) or a few extra costs related to chemo during covid protocols …I had issues with GM in the past that made me switch to SWICA in the first place, so extremely happy that I switched everything just before she got sick. :four_leaf_clover:

@ma0 , don’t know if you reached them, but just FYI, I see that on their website now they have additional information. We should receive our login by mid-January, and our insurance card by end of january. They also confirm that they are taking care of informing the new insurance to our old insurance company:

Thanks for the info. It took me a while but I was able to talk to them. Very kind and answered what I needed to know.

On a side note: I wonder why they don’t show more info on my page on their site. It is enough to know that I’ve been accepted (which is usually ok ) and that the previous Kasse is also informed.

That makes sense then…but what if I need to the doctor tomorrow, and I don’t have the card yet?

By the way is it normal that I received the card from the previous insurance if I have just a complementary insurance with them?

The card is not necessary.

Either he will ask you to bring the card on a next appointment or you give him the informations he need:

Name/ Adress
Insurance company
AHV No
Client No from your insurance company if possible

I just did that yesterday - brought along the old card (for AHV number) and the policy from the new insurance with KPT I received via post.
All good.

Yes, a complementary-only also provides a separate card.

Update: I did receive the credentials via post on new year’s eve, still no sign idea about the cards: did anyone get them?

Thanks all.
Don.

Today I received a message from them that the cards will be delivered by end of January, and that they supposedly informed all relevant parties. I’m supposed to just show up without a card and the doctor/pharmacy/??? will know how to handle it.

The pharmacy I visited yesterday did not know about it, however…

Do they even know that you are with another insurance? At the doctors they always ask me are you still with the same insurance. Just say yes and that’s it. They will try to send the bill to your old insurance which will then refuse and it ends up as a direct bill instead.

I don’t think the card tells you if the insurance is still active as they usually are valid for a few years (as loads of people stay with the same insurance for more than a year). Chip just holds some data. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Anyways I can no longer log in to my CSS account now (switched to kpt), which does make little sense. Anyone else having the same issue?

Yes, see above (for the doctor part at least).

Same here.
