Withholding swiss taxes

Hello community,
Does anyone know how withholding taxes are levied on dividends generated on IBKR (US etf)? Is it different for Swiss and American taxes? When does this happen (directly, during the tax return, etc.)? Is it also possible to get a refund of the US tax?
I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your time.

Thanks a lot!
So if I understand well:
Case 2 -: International Broker (like Interactive brokers)

VWRL will have 0 withholding tax
CHSPI will have 35% WHT, C1
VT will have U1 = 15% WHT , U2 = 0

For the VT (US fund), U1 will be the US and U2 Switzerland. So in this case, there is no Swiss taxes?

Hope that I got it right

Thanks again!

Yes IBKR will deduct 15% tax from your dividends and you can try to get full/partial refund when you file DA1 form

Just make sure W8BEN is setup properly at IBKR

Perfect! But it works only if the 15% tax exceeds 100.- USD right?

It’s 100 CHF but not just for VT. It is threshold for DA1 claim form

Using DA 1 claim, people can claim back WHT from various securities in various jurisdictions. VT (USA) is just one one then. But if only foreign security you own (where WHT is deducted) is VT, then only VT would count for you

Thx a lot! Actually my VT is an SCHD ETF (should be the same). The other ETF I have are interests based like SCHG, VTI and VXUS. Since there is no dividends, it shouldn’t be an issue regarding WHT.
Thanks again for your precious help and clarifications

VTI & VXUS are same as VT. They have similar process

I just checked SCHG is also equity ETF, so same treatment as VT too.

Darn! Okay then :S i will have to check this asap! Thx for your help!
