Hi, What do you use for very exotic currencies like GEL?
Just to share my experience with WIR Bank and their card. On the one hand, the card itself is really good – I’ve saved quite a lot on foreign ATM withdrawals compared to other banks.
But the customer service is honestly a disaster. I was charged CHF 30 by a malfunctioning ATM abroad that never gave me any cash. WIR told me several times they’d “take care of it,” but then I never heard back. Now months later they’ve told me the amount is “too small to investigate,” so I just have to accept the loss.
I’m really shocked that they would charge me for a transaction I never actually received and show zero goodwill. With other cards, like Wise, issues like this were resolved quickly and without hassle. This never happened to me with any other bank.
So: the card itself is good, but if you ever run into problems, you’re on your own.
Does anyone know how I can specify the language I want the WIR "customer portal” to be in? I mean I can get around as I am billingual, but I find it iffy that the customer portal is in french, but then when I go in ebanking it is all in German. Is there anyway to specify the language for the ebanking?
check the adress bar and switch from /fr/ to /de/. It should change the language.
I agree the ebanking portal is pretty “amateur”…
Or inverse if you want french.
Yeah I do that, but the E-banking itself actually stays in german.. Not a tragedy for me, but dont know how FR speakers handle it. I guess it will be solved with the new e-banking platform, which btw does anyone have news on? Apart from that one article mentioned by the software provider, I can find 0 news about it on the WIR website
It’s weird because I have everything in french.
The address is: https://wwwsec.wir.ch/portal/fr/ebanking
I can’t find any language setting except in the website address, so if it doesn’t work try to contact them, it’s maybe on their side to change it.
Did anybody try sending money to a foreign bank account, not in chf? It does not show me the exchange rate nor the fees applied (instead, PF clearly shows me both).
I ordered a 650 usd payment. I was shown a conversion rate that would mean pay 521 chf. Fees of 5 plus 25, to be somehow split between me and the receiver (but not entirely clear to me how) depending on a menu. So I picked “shared costs”.
Now the receiver got 625 usd and I was charged 531 chf. So in total almost 35 chf disappeared. Not super happy about the (lack of) transparency.
Agree. It’s in-transparent. I haven’t asked how much ended on the other side. It was just confirmed that they got it.
Btw. I see the conversion rate is worse than the usual payments with the card. On that day it should have been 0.93ish.
Hi,
How are you doing with your geo-blocking settings? You can select the countries either in the DebiX+ app or through e-banking.
The thing is, it seems these settings are not synchronized. If you change something in the app, it doesn’t update in e-banking.
It’s quite annoying because, for example, I had to pay for Bitwarden in USD (outside of Switzerland). Even though my app settings were set to Worldwide, the payment didn’t go through. Later, I noticed that in e-banking, it was set to only Switzerland and the EU.
I contacted WIR support, but they didn’t seem to have a clear answer..
Thanks for any feedback.
This issue is going to disappear with the new e-banking solution as it combines e-banking with mobile banking. Today, those two are quite independent.
The new thing will roll-out the next few weeks.
ok, will see. Thank you!
Anyone moving from Radicant to WIR Bank Top package?
I’ve re-read the whole thread and it seems that the following are the pros and cons.
Pros:
- Free solution
- 2 Free withdrawal per month everywhere in the World
- SIX exchange rate applied to the payments
Cons:
- 4 apps needed (!)
- Lack of customer support
- Old interface
- Stringent conditions to open the account (but not an issue for me)
I have a few questions for the people using it:
- Can I pay QR bills using the app? How difficult is it?
- Can I wire money around using only the app? (Seems no according to @anon91694432)
- Can I easily check the last transactions made using the card via the app?
I would go back to Neon honestly, but I didn’t like the recent increase of prices. I also feel they are going to increase even more in the future (lack of competition).
On the other hand I spend something like <5000 CHF abroad per year, and with Neon it would cost ~17.5 CHF, basically nothing compared to what a typical bank would charge…
As far I understood, with the new e-banking there will be only two apps (one for e-banking, and one still for card from six). The authenticator app will be integrated into the e-banking app). The few times I contacted the support, I got quick answers. I think, the old interface is as well going to be renewed with the new e-banking.
To your questions:
- It’s easy to pay the QR bills. I scan with mobile and manage in e-banking. I suppose this will also slightly change (but not sure).
- There is the option that you can approve (by signing) the transactions. You can lower the limits or disable it. The last year I had 2 times I had to approve the transaction. Otherwise is easy, just send via app. (haven’t checked the use case of anon…)
- The check of payments made with the card is a little bit less friendly as with neon. The amounts show only in the SIX app until settlement and only in foreign currency. But you can always check in e-banking under the corresponding account.
I moved from neon to WIR and I am happy.
I’m also a WIR costumer for my travels. It works pretty well but I had some issues with high payments from a tour operator from Borneo before my travel when I still was in Switzerland. I agree it must have looked strange to have a payment request about 4k in Malaysian Ringgit from a weird company set in KK and hence the payment was declined several times and I actually needed to pay with Revolut. Beside that during the travel I had never issues also last year in Japan to retrieve cash it was never an issue. The app and e-banking are not great and far behind current standard (I really love the UI from Revolut) but I would not change my current setup with PF as main account and WIR/Revolut for traveling.
Maybe old interface but very easily readable and efficient in my opinion.
BCF/FKB had the same and recently they changed for a new one and guess what, it’s shitty (again, my opinion..). Lot of clicks, bugs, not user friendly. I quickly went back to the old one and I was happy WIR had the same.
So I hope they will not follow BCF I will be unhappy.
Then I always had an answer in the same day or the day after with support, nothing to complain at all.
I very recently opened the account with Wir. They called me to ask why I was opening an account and what the funds origin was. Overall in ~ a week I had the accounts open (Top + Savings).
E-banking is fine for me, no gadgets but easy to find your way (I hate the UBS one).
I didn’t install the app, no real need for it, for the card I already had the debix app (for Raiffeisen), so I just added the Wir card to it.
Can’t talk about FX with the card or the account, I only use Wise for FX operations.
What’s wrong with BCF app ? I find the new one very pleasing in comparison to the old one.
It has bugs everywhere but unfortunately I can’t take screenshots so I can’t show it.
- Main page (accueil) says a problem happened (“my comments couldn’t load”, I don’t even know I left some comments…) plus it takes half of the page. Then I don’t like the “carousel” showing the amount on your accounts, it is slow and annoying to slide just to see how much you have on other accounts, I would like the fortune tab as the main tab instead.
- Transactions and Analysis tabs are the same pages…
- When I click on Fortune tab and select an account then I have a yellow warning bar saying the transactions are temporary not availables (temporary since I installed the app weeks ago..).
- Other little bugs..
It looks like the old Windows phone UI with squares ![]()
What I like is the dark mode and the general look is more modern, ok, but the old app shows just what you need nothing more. I like general simplicity.
