I had Bank WIR on the phone this morning, they confirmed that any VIAC balance does NOT accrue towards the exemption (only Terzo-Konto, i.e., the 3rd pillar solution from Bank WIR directly).

Also to keep in mind that a share of Bank WIR cost between 200-300 CHF (price is set on a monthly basis), but can only be sold back to the bank for its nominal value (i.e., 20 CHF).

They explained that those restrictions have been put in place to avoid people using the account as a “travel card” once or twice a year due to their extremely good conditions abroad. That being said, they added that they show flexibility regarding the requirement to have at least 1500 CHF incoming on a monthly basis, and will happily remove any base fee if the account is somewhat active (other than for travelling).

Can deposits and cash transactions be made at Wir? Even though it’s not something I do frequently, I still find it convenient to have the option of depositing cash into an account.

I got the card today. I walked to Italy to buy something. Two remarks:

  1. It’s unusual (to me) to see just the EUR amount in the SIX debiX+ app minutes after the purchase. I suppose it’s settled by EOD and the CHF amount will appear. Neon shows it right away (not settled yet, but with the not changing anymore CHF amount.)
  2. In the main WIR mobile banking app, the amount is not shown yet. Suppose also by EOD.

I can live with that.

Which exemption?

Really? That sounds like a really bad, money loosing offer.

Paying with the card has definitely worse rate than Interbank.
I see a conversion rate of .934717, but Interbank rate was never that high at time of the purchase (as far I can check).

Btw, the transaction rate still not visible in the deibX+ app. I found it in E-Banking > Karten > Kartenbuchungen.

Edit: most probably same wrong configuration as WIR Bank TOP package - #22 by dr.coffee. Have to check with them.

The currency conversion is never shown in the debix app and happens only when the paid amount is debited from your account. So you need to check the account transaction list and compare the fx rate shown there with the interbank rate at the time of booking. Bookings always seem to happen around 6am…

But definitely check with them.

Is it expected that they didn’t send me a card but I have to order one myself on the e-banking?

I got mine within days two months ago. I ordered just the TOP current acc and the savings account. As far I can remember, I didn’t have to order the card separately.

I also got it automatically with the TOP account.

I tried the TOP package. FOUR apps guys, I’m out :joy: C

Does anyone know how good is the payment statistics with this package? To me is important to have some good visibility on my payments automatically and to define my own payment categories and hopefully to see every month where the money is spent. How would you rate it compared with Revolut or neon? Thanks!

Unfortunately, there are no real statistics or categories available. It seems Wir is an old fashioned brick and mortar bank in this regard.

Aaaaand debiX+ for 3D Secure

All traditional banks use 4 apps?

This is not shocking for me. Risk segregation. How many useless app do we have installed? Héhé.

In my case: none :slightly_smiling_face:

Another funny thing with WIR is that if you want to make a payment via Mobile App, you still have to log in to E-Banking on your desktop in order to sign the payment. Exactly what’s the point of the mobile app then? This is Stone Age banking.

I totally agree with these critics about 4 apps and user interface. It’s not optimal at all

Anyway this offer is still great: free, good saving account, free SEPA transfer, interbank rate purchase
Add the mortgage with assets pledged by VIAC and it’s a no brainer to me.
Who competes with then in terms of fees and index fund TER with mortgage?

  • they added Twint and e-bill as promised
  • joint account avaible for free
