It’s a free speech embracing board thus includes a broad range of topics from trolling, pure shit, to occasionally the diamonds in the rough (very insightful threads). Lot of stuff which doesn’t resonate with me, but still very interesting to get curve ball topics / perspectives to learn from. Oh, and yes, also sexist, racist, and other stuff on there (just as a heads up).
It’s called the ‘red board’ and traces its roots to www.fuckedcompany.com - the dot come deadpool - from early 2000 era. Some (minor) celebs came forth from that. Eventually that board closed because Pud (the owner) was forced to shut it down by his VC masters as he was launching some start-ups (quite successfully). There were multiple moments of exodus to new and again new boards. The current one is a shadow of the glory of the original one but I still find it amusing occasionally. Fucked Company - Wikipedia Pud also created a pretty cool spinoff called internalmemos.com where employes would post (confidential) internal memos from their employer. It provided a lot of insight for investment purposes and line of sight on the meltdown of the dot com era at the time.
Have also been extremely active for close to 15 years on another message board related to a niche collecting interest of mine where I am pretty much one of the top collectors / experts in the world - not posting that link here as there’d be too much personal information disclosed via that site which I prefer to not do (it’s an entirely serious and legit forum, a lot of academic type discussions and research, but I prefer to have some silos).
Occasionally I’ve also created a profile to comment on articles on BBC Sporst as well as Fox News - the latter more for trolling (and there’s a LOT to troll considering the audience:)).
Mostly reddit, a tobacco forum, the SwissForum, and this one. Used to be a forum warrior 20 years ago, had accounts in tens of fora and it was taking a huge amount of time to keep track, but no more for at least 15 years.
A forum about pipe tobacco, pipes, cigars and overall tobacciana. There are many dedicated and extremely active cigar forums, and I think also cigarette forums, as well as a tobacco growing forum that I have an old account on, but I am not active on any of them.
I don’t think there’s “investing in tobacco” as such, I don’t mean investing in tobacco stocks but investing in physical tobacco. There are of course unicorns (rare blends like Germain’s, out of production blends like McClelland) in both pipe tobacco and cigars that go for a lot in the gray market, and there are many scalpers and flippers but I doubt many smokers bother to look at it as an investment.
It’s funny how there’s something for everyone, reddit is an insane rabbit hole I cannot get enough of, there’s bound to be a subreddit for…anything, some pretty disturbing and very unpleasant, and some highly legitimate with committed users spending time to provide quality information. My gut feeling is that reddit is fairly clean compared with what’s out there, not that I go looking, I used to try to find the sickest sh1t on the net out of morbid curiosity but stopped many years ago.
