What is your second pillar performance?

Lets talk about the Problem we want to solve first, before we jump to solutions? Whats rhe Problem? Greed, and that a 0.5% set of working population thinks they could yolo their life savibgs into 100% stocks and this way become more rich?

For everyone, via Exemption from contributions to II pillar — Pensionikeskus

For reporting on it, see e.g. A Billion Down the Drain: Estonia's Experience Shows What Can Happen If Pension Funds Are Withdrawn Early

It was just incredibly stupid and I would not recommend arguing for this in Switzerland - the median citizen isn’t any better at allocating money here.

Well then it‘s something very different to what I was saying. As I have written.

I agree. But I think the median old fashioned Swiss would put it in a saving account with 0,01% interest. The median new fashioned would put it in a Mercedes.

And most would not stay the course during bear markets

So yeah, happy with our system.

I would be in favor of an opt-out system though, and/or the default being a kind of target date fund like setup.

Weren’t those your words …

The default being a target date fund. It‘s literally right there.

Not being able to pull out the money.

and here.

Maybe work on your reading skills?

>implying people read the backlog

NB: there’s a very different opt-out that works for the far right tail of pension fund holders –

Spend a year in the Emirates or USA. Withdraw everything. Come back.

Does USA not tax the withdrawal?

I’m sure they do. This is meant to get around EU rules allowing you to withdraw only the non-mandatory portion.

Many sunny islands would be happy to receive you for a year doing “gardening leave” or however you call it

In Zürich, I heard of one person a couple of years ago doing partial then early (but within pension system) retirement. I think was the first and had to work with hr to make it work.

A few years ago, Avenir Suisse released an interesting article (and proposition) about this subject : Il est grand temps de pouvoir choisir librement sa caisse de pension - Avenir Suisse. They also underligned some of the restrictions that should apply in order to keep the system viable for everyone.

I have opened a new thread to discuss Second pillar - ideas and wishes for improvements

What do you mean? Google/ big tech fire them before retirememt?

Historically people would early retire or change employment before reaching retirement age.

Now you have to account for ongoing layoffs as well.

Bonds are very much risk-free - so are pension funds.

Invalidity and survivors’ pensions don’t pay for themselves.

Then again, it is de-facto opt-out for self-employed. A group with very elevated risk of going bankrupt.
