I am amazed how one can trade so much in one day, not wanting to spoil that thread as I cannot contribute, I would really love to hear if people want to share their strategies for day or swing trading.
Catching early some popular runners in PM and selling them at the opening bell? Or trying to catch each leg up on volatile stocks?
If no other forum is offered, maybe just discuss it here, perhaps more narrowly scoped than the original topic title of “what is your trading strategy”?
E.g. “trading strategies for volumes exceeding 1M a day”. Certainly would exclude me.
I consider it incompatible with FIRE and my risk appetite
I don’t have an edge (there are people out there with more knowledge and/or who are smarter and/or who have a technology edge… how could I ever beat them?)
Read “Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt” by Michael Lewis and you’ll realize the game is stacked against you.
I did try it out in the 90s with highly leveraged products, mainly futures.
But I was way too young for that. It is much action and my strategy was not mechanical enough, too much errors due to my caveman brain that needs exact instructions to work at investing.
The shorter the holding period the harder it is to find an edge. But then, the shorter the period the more money you make due to compounding.
If you close positions the same day most brokers don’t even charge you interest. Nice.
Shorter time frames like daytrading give you much more data to do analysis. The single most committed error when researching for a strategy is using out-of-sample data more than once.
For me it was not a success. Much work and I lost a lot of money. I won’t go back there…
