Wealth/financial/tax planning services from UBS

Hey all, has anyone any experience with UBS’ wealth/financial/tax planning services? They’re charging 300chf/hour so trying to get a sense if it’s worth it. We are relatively financial literate but have little time right now to investigate every single topic…

Well, what are you looking for? Wealth accumulation, preservation, retirement planning, tax optimization?

I have no experience with UBS’ financial advise, but given that for nearly every existing product you can get better deals at places other than UBS, I assume what they suggest is not optimal for you.

UBS will sell you UBS things. If you find a financial advisor that is fee based (‘Honorarberater’, in contrast to provision based) you’ll likely have less of a bias.

Unfortunately I don’t know of one and am also not sure whether it is desired/allowed to suggest anyone specific in this forum…
But a quick Google search about ‘Honorarberater Schweiz’ gives you options to find someone like this.

Honestly bit of everything, although we have been saving and investing for a while, I don’t feel like we are doing it in an optimal way. Thus looking for some sort of one stop shop advisor

What’s the optimal way?

Best way is to talk to a Honorarberater, as @almi mentioned, because they get paid a hourly rate and be done with you. UBS clearly has an interest in selling you their products, which is how they make their money anyway.

But you are way too vague here. Do you want to give your money to an advisor (UBS) or still manage it yourself?

I guesstimate if you let them manage your portfolio it will probably be 1.5% below the first CHF 1 million and will gradually go down to something like 0.7% for assets over CHF 10 million.

About taxes there are just the standard things as a normal person.

  • Move to another location
  • Cancel your monthly church subscription
  • Max out 3rd pillar
  • buy into pension fund
  • etc.

If you have your own company then it’s a completely other topic as you have more possibilities.

I’ve seen people have some good feedback about vz, I think they do pure advisory meeting.

I’d trust it more than UBS that will likely be heavily biased towards their own products.

Dont get fooled by the good image of VZ. They have an own wealth management, bank and insurance. And yes they will try to sell it to you. It might be cheaper than UBS but still similar…

Someone I know (already have WM from UBS) had an introductory meeting (free) with the wealth/retirement planning representatives of UBS. Some of the discussion points were lump sum vs annuity pension, retirement plans, budget. They were quite happy how the meeting went as the consultants were competent and listened to the questions of the client, while also confirming some of the clients assumptions about retirement. They didn’t try to sell or even mention any products, since their job is more advisory / planning and analysing individual situations.
I think such a service can also be helpful for a couple where one spouse is less aware of retirement planning options, sometimes to hear from a third party is reassuring.

Of course there are cheaper places to get this advice from than UBS, but its certainly not a bad thing to get this kind of service. Rather save money by choosing a Depot and products with low fees.
