I am a non-eu living and working in Geneva from last 3 years and I have Swiss resident B permit
Due to personal reason, I moved out of my flat and looking for another flat. However, as you know finding a apartment is a bit difficult and takes time.
I am thinking to stay in Airbnb for 2 month in Geneva border at Saint-Genis-Pouilly, France and commute between France to Geneva for work.
My question was does it really a problem If I stay out of Geneva for 2 months ?
Is there any legal or border security issue?
If no issues, then how long I’m allowed to stay outside Geneva?
There is a difference between moving out versus de-registering
If you are not registered anywhere in Switzerland , it would cause problems because Gemeide needs to know where you are. I have heard some cases where Police was looking for the person.
So if you work from France, it should be considered more like „vacation“. You would still need a local CH address where you are registered
Well, My new apartment contract starts in December. So I am think to stay in France border for 2 months (October & November) and commute to Geneva for work.
I don’t see much issues because many people work from somewhere else for few days. If your previous flatmate doesn’t create a fuss, it should be okay.
However I have never experienced this, so not sure
By the way. When a tenant leaves, the landlord informs the Gemeinde. So I am not sure if you can remain registered after leaving the apartment
It’s hard to find lots of information about this (doesn’t seem to be a common situation).
I think for the French side it’s probably fine (but don’t take my words for it), it’s a short term stay and I guess you can do it due to your swiss resident permit giving you access to short term stays in EU.
For the swiss side I’d be more concerned, does your permit allow you to not have a place of residence in Switzerland? What are the limits for cross border workers?
You probably should ask the administration about it (I guess OCPM?).
