Tax refund via DA-1 denied

Did you specify actual wealth management cost or used the ‘Pauschale’ (0.3% on all investments)? I’m using the latter and never had such an issue. Any corrections they made, was explained on a followup page for every position they touched (it’s hard to read and easy to miss.. but they actually explain every cut they make). and I wasn’t shy to ask back. for me, reduced deductions for RUS always fell into one of these categories:

  • Positions where the ‘zusätzlicher Steuerrückbehalt USA’ could not be proven (e.g. Yuh - they withdraw 30% but it’s not 15% WHT and 15% RUS) or wasn’t made (non Swiss brokers).
  • Reimbursement Value too low (I had USD 9 in dividends on one position, apparently too low for reimbursement).

In your reply letter, you should have explanations of every correction they made. Maybe check them out. I always do that and recalculate. So far for me it was always either the ‘too low treshold’ or a mixup of positions that have the additional 15% and those that have not. If you’re importing the e-Steuerauszug may also matter - apparently since 2023 KTZH can automatically read in witholding tax and other stuff - maybe that has something to do with it (it’s not like the Kanton’s Software has no bugs… I regularly provide bug reports when I file my taxes)

I seem to recall that there’s an upper limit on reimbursement though (in function of your total tax amount) I can’t find if this is on DA-1 or the regular Swiss WHT (35% Verrechnungssteuer) though. Maybe it’s in the online Wegleitung but I have no interest in looking at the tax site again unless they reject what I submitted.
