I live in one of the smaller ‘original’ Kantons in central switzerland and am glad I joined the Facebook group for that Kanton - get frequent updates on fun/interesting/charming events in the (small) towns surrounding where I live and really enjoying the experience.

What do you use it for? Any different than the cantonal login?

I love Switzerland Mobility, it is really hidden gem :gem_stone:

Apps for outdoor activities:

  • Swiss topo
  • Swiss mobility
  • Orux maps
  • Peak finder
  • Meteo Swiss

Apps for paying:

  • Twint

Apss for transport:

  • Mobility
  • SBS Mobile

Finance blogs:

  • The poor swiss
  • Banker on wheels

Youtube finance channels:

  • Ben Felix

Finance podcasts:

  • Demystifying finance (quite technical)
  • Finanzfluss (German)

CoMaps which offers fully offline maps based on Openstreetmap data. I like it more than Google Maps for navigating in cities by foot and bicycle since Openstreetmap is aware of small paths which one can take when going by foot or bicycle.

And for hiking I use it in conjunction with SwissTopo app as there are some trails present on Openstreetmap which are not present in SwissTopo (but reverse is also true - there are some trails present in SwissTopo which aren’t present in Openstreetmap). And CoMaps consumes way less battery than SwissTopo. Even when I use offline maps in SwissTopo, my phone sometimes gets very hot using it. This has never been an issue with CoMaps.

Some more other apps that I found useful:

  • White Risk - snow conditions and avalanche forecast, mandatory if you do ski touring/ski mountaineering
  • SwissMe - if you need to pass a naturalization test, this app has up to date list of questions for every commune in Switzerland.
  • Too Good To Go - lets you purchase unsold food from local restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores at heavily discounted prices.
  • daypasstracker - shows prices of supersaver day passes for the next half a year.

Alertswiss, official emergency app to alert and inform about disasters, emergencies, etc. Recently got a warning that there was a fire near me and had to close all windows.

VoteInfo, information about past / upcoming elections

My two (savings-related) cents : )

  • Hagglezon com - this one compares prices of a product across all European Amazons.

  • Rabbatcorner ch - cashback platform that gives you a % of your purchases back, in money. Those small amounts add up and when you reach 20 chf, you can transfer back to your bank account, or let your balance continue to grow. It features a lot of partner shops, including Brack, Interdiscount, MediaMarkt, Fnac, HP, Gonser, Nettoshop, Dyson, etc etc
as well as the usual travel and hotel booking sites. Also has a referral program.

And a bonus (not related to switzerland, but I really like it when I need to medium to long-form reads on iPhone)

  • Instapaper is a very clean, distraction-free “read it later” app.

https://reka.ch/ for vacations with children in Switzerland and not only. I aim to reserve at some point an accommodation in a “resort/village/Dorf” type of place, where children between 8-9 and 14 can go around and do things by themselves, but they are filling up very quickly.

Reka Money/Card: use it to pay for basically anything related to public transport in Switzerland. Even some cafes around train stations accept it. Some employers provide it as a (non-taxed) bonus, some offer with 20% discount. Anyone can make a bank transfer to Reka to get a 2% discount. Anyone can also buy Reka Card balance at Coop with a 3% discount and pay with Coop Supercard credit card - and this is what I do.

I do this every year and then use it to pay for my GA at the SBB ticket counter. Unfortunately, it’s not as attractive as it used to be, since the Reka card now costs CHF 15 per year.

Yeah I think when I checked the math wasn’t really worth it if you have to pay for the card.

Just checked my account, you’re right. That’s a bummer. I got charged Fr. 15 and then reimbursed Fr. 9. Not sure why though.
