Steuerausscheidung option when reporting an income from properties abroad

And I am trying to understand why wouldn’t I want to go for the separation?
After all, its supposed to protect me from double-taxation.
Are there any disadvantages that are not immediately clear?

From what I understand the alternative is that they’ll do it when they process your taxes.
