DDOG: 5K
MSFT: 10K
NET : 2K (took a beating but had a small position!)
NVDA: 40K (got lucky)
SSON: 27K GBP
U: 500USD (took a real beating!! but had a small(ish) position - learned my lesson)
VT: 50K
RSUs with eTrade from my former company: 400K USD. Stock is down but I understand why and I know it will recover. It’s really a macroeconomic situation. I don’t need this money
Fundsmith: 15K GBP
Angel invested / invested in startups: all-in about 60K. 1 startup is likely going bust. 2 show a lot of promise and 1 in particular might 10x
RE: Own house in Switzerland, paying mortgage. Property has likely appreciated since we bought in 2014 but we don’t intend to sell + small property in southern Europe ~150K EUR
Crypto: 1 BTC - bought at 19K
Looking for advice
I know my stock portfolio makes little sense. I should probably get out of NET, U, DDOG – these were small hype purchases. Do you agree?
MSFT and NVDA will be around so not thinking of touching those
What to do with SSON. Its my only position in GBP. It’s basically flat since I bought. I might have some currency favorability but insignificant I think
I like fundsmith since it has appreciated and I worked for one of the companies in their portfolio so I like their investment thesis… but I only have 15K there. Double down? Exit? Keep?
The elephant in the room… what to do with Cash? I’m quite risk averse and I like the safety net but I know I should do something with it. Our monthly burn is higher than most on this forum but we can generate cash to cover the burn and do some savings… so this is where I would need your thoughts.
In general you seem to enjoy doing stock picking a lot, are you convinced about your choices beating the market long term? (it’s easy to feel like you are, until you aren’t )
Like I said the RSUs I have little doubt the stock will go up. I know the company fundamentals are strong as is the leadership team. They are also the leader in terms of global market share. I do believe the stock will appreciate in the short term (maybe even after the US elections). I know we shouldn’t time the market but this case I am bullish because of the fundamentals behind the company.
I don’t enjoy stock picking at all… it was a moment of “weakness” and over confidence. as I said I learned my lesson with Unity
But also with the RSU that’s stock picking, if instead of having your current investment, you had 1.5M in cash, would you put one third of it in a bet towards a single company? (even one you think you know well, potentially better than other market players who also look at the fundamentals, leadership team, etc.)
“risk averse” and 40% of net wealth in one stock and very little in global stocks funds doesn’t come together for me. What is risk in your understanding?
On the other hand, high income solves many problems.
to expand. the stock has been at $120 (even as high as $140) and currently trading at $90… so maybe there is FOMO on my side. My target sell price is $100-$105
Maybe put some of the available cash in additional ventures, so you have a better distributed risk profile with 10-15 startups where 10% fail and 10% win big?
