Semi-private insurance: downgrade and future upgrade

We are currently close to 40 years old. When moved to Switzerland we chose semi-private insurance. We are considering going down to FLEX semi/private with SWICA.

Swica told us that if we want to upgrade back to full semi private or private there is a questionnaire to be filled but no other benefits (direct or indirect, access or quality of service) impacted.

does anyone have experience with upgrading from FLEX to full semi or private insurance?

thank you

That’s the curse of supplemental insurances. They’ll deny all preexisting conditions (which you’ll probably have more of when you get older).

If there are some sort of conditions, upgrading may be denied as a whole or for particular risks. IMO the older you get, to more difficult it’s going to be..

But that’s how insurance works in general: If you have it but don’t need it, it’s “a wast of money” - if you don’t have it but need it, it’s to late (“no insurer is going to insure a burning house”).

I know of “upgrade options” one can buy, allowing a future upgrade regardless of your state of health. E.g. CSS offers such options ( myFlex Hospitalisation Insurance from CSS )
