RSU tax withholding & declaration questions - Swiss Resident / US Broker

Hello All,

We have RSU and Employee Stock grants that vest in a US broker account. I am relatively new to this process and want to make sure I am filling the tax declarations correctly.

Could you help me if am understanding this correctly:

  1. Tax withholding on vesting: IIUC, at the time of vesting, a percentage of shares was automatically withheld by broker. My understanding is that this money goes directly to my Swiss employer to cover Swiss income tax and social security (not US taxes). I am assuming this amount get reflected automatically on my annual Swiss salary certificate. Is this correct?

  2. Swiss tax filings: I receive statements like attached one. This mentions 6.4% tax. I assume this is not US taxes but AHV + ALV? If not, do I need to declare anything or file any claim back with the US IRS?

  3. Wealth Tax & Dividends: For RSUs and employee stock grants, I am assuming I need to just declare the remaining net shares sitting in the brokerage account as of Dec 31st for cantonal wealth tax. Any other considerations apply?

It would be really helpful if someone could confirm this as I am filling this first time and would like to avoid any mistakes.

Thanks!

Correct, vesting counts as income and is declared through the salary certificate.

Yes, those should be Swiss social security deductions (it could include tax at source if relevant, but that’s too low to be the case here  )

That’s it. And dividends if the stock issues any (in which case make sure you file a W8-BEN and file a DA-1 if relevant).

edit: btw you might want to fully anonymize the screenshot instead of partially (esp. now where LLM can probably reverse engineer the company and amounts.
