Quellensteuer CH Permit B over 120k

Hello

Can someone advise me how I can have taxes calculated:

  • I have earned 120k in kanton ZH
  • I live in gemeinde Elgg
I need to re-calculate how much I will have to pay based on self- declaration.
Where can I find guideline or online calculator for that?
    Thanks:)

If I use this calculator, I have no right to deduct anything - I know that normally people can deduct many things and now based on that calculator I would need to pay additionally.

There’s a button to specify the detailed deductions. But it looks like it uses sane defaults (max deduction for health insurance, pauschale for professional fees, etc.)

Since Elgg has 119% taxes (same as Zurich city), you do expect to pay more than what was withheld, so it’s likely correct.

With regard to travel costs - it is empty - I see that max deduction in ZH is 5k - I commute to a different Kanton to work. Max deduction for ZH is 5k - can i use this?

Check https://www.zh.ch/content/dam/zhweb/bilder-dokumente/themen/steuern-finanzen/steuern/natuerlichepersonen/2023/est-wegleitungen-uj/305_wegleitung_zh_2023_uj.pdf for the rules. (Berufsauslagen)

(Typically you can deduct the price of the public transport abo)

I don’t quite understand. If you file your tax return, you will see how much you need to pay. Are you talking about 2023 return or 2024?

2023 - this is new to me therefore I have so many questions

Look around the forum and check the tax tipps topics.

There is lots of stuff you can deduct in ZH without burden of proof.
Like 700 for a bike or couple hundred for donations.

If you start filing your tax return, you will see various possibilities of deduction if you are using Zurich online tax return form

Maybe the guide at link here can help you as it explains lot of possible deduction.

Since you need to declare your taxes regardless, I would register at your canton’s tax office and then enter all your declarations. This should give you an estimate.

Moreover, since you are on a B permit you are taxed at source. So you can check the total amount of withholding tax you paid in 2024. While this value will ultimately differ once you declare your taxes (due to communal tax & your declarations) might also be helpful to have a rough estimate.
I think cantonal & communal taxes are due 30.Sep. in Zurich but not sure how fast the tax offices are to respond to NOV (I don’t file taxes in Zurich).
