(Title edited: Psychiatrist recommendation that could prescribe off label ADHD meds fast around zurich (I am not looking for productivity or any high, I suffer from a chronic condition and these class of stimulants provides relief))
hey folks, i am really struggling here cause I can’t find psychiatrist here that would prescribe me off label ADHD meds for a chronic condition relief. The ones i tried force me to take months of testing to rule out ADHD - which I do not have.
Would you be able to DM me any psychiatrist contact, who is willing to listen to my suffering and emptahise and prescribe me the off label usage in a short timeframe?
I wouldn’t ask this if not in pain. I know its a good thing to have these systems in place to prevent abuse of these compounds (ex: for work productivity lol), but i do believe certain exceptions should be made if pain is constant or if the patient really needs them for non adhd conditions. Thank you so much for any help.
There’s a bit of context missing here. Why don’t you go through the doctor who prescribed it to you before? If that doctor is abroad and you’ve immigrated: Have you already tried asking the doctor to write you a letter so you can take it to a Swiss doctor together with a copy of your existing medical records?
It can be a bit of a hassle. You seem to rule out ADHD. There are probably good reasons for it. However, if you have not formerly ruled it out through a formal diagnosis process, I would undergo one (be it only to formaly rule it out).
It’s hard to establish a trusted relationship with a doctor/psychatrist. I can’t help for the area of Zürich. I would schedule appointments with psychiatrists, doctors and psychologists until I find someone who is willing to listen to me and who I trust (who could then recommend me a good psychiatrist if they can’t prescribe the drug themselves). Failing to get a recommendation, the law of large numbers might be your best bet. Getting an appointment can take time so I would start now.
Edit: you probably know this already but hyperactivity isn’t a requirement for ADHD, at least nowadays. I have discovered my own ADHD through a separate process that also assessed it and wouldn’t have suspected it otherwise, yet, going through the diagnosis process, it became very apparent to me that it is clearly a major factor in my behavior.
Well, according to that article, the only issue with the “import-solution” per se seems to be to only be allowed to import a month’s supply per… something… (the article didn’t say, so might be per month but may just as well be per time crossing the border or per day).
Of course you might run into other issues like living too far from your former doctor or them not prescribing to people living in other countries.
Yeah, narcotics / controlled substance. Needs a special recipe. Would not try importing it, short path to criminal investigation. Also can make you test positive in a road drug test and you then better have a recipe.
Had Ritaline for years, in off label use. Swiss doctor suggested it for my condition. I later found a better solution that is not applicable to your case.
I also imported normal drugs from Italy, with a Swiss recipe. Cost 20% of the price. Was then living in Ticino and went to Como, but there is a pharmacy right at the border in Chiasso.
The limitation for self importation is supply for 1 month of maximum dosage according to Swissmedic licence. This requirement has no explicit legal basis and I do not regard it as a good enough basis for a fine or confiscation. Never had to test this, though.
Obviously per month, due to the personal use stipulation.
Importing 10x your personal use is quite an obvious indicator of doing it for third parties (i.e. prohibited.
Out of curiosity: Why would you need to „rule out" ADHD for off-label use? Surely you’d just rather need to substantiate prove that the medication helps against your pain? Why would you go to a psychiatrist anyway, if you already know that you don’t have the (ADHD) condition that psychiatrist treats?
If you know that you’re not suffering from ADHD, shouldn’t you prefer to go a medical doctor that treats pain symptoms?
The Swiss medical system handles standard cases efficiently.
You can, however, find very awful stories when your personal situation is out of the ordinary. For some rare conditions, getting the proper diagnosis can take years, if getting it at all. Getting proper medication/treatment for it can be another steep to impossible mountain to climb.
That’s before taking into account what gets covered by health insurances. I’ve heard from people with rare enough conditions to trust them on that. We have very big blind spots that we brush away as not economically viable enough to handle.
Edit:@San_Francisco to answer more plainly: either a deficiency of the Swiss healthcare system, over caution by doctors or specific aspects of OP’s story that we haven’t been told yet.
Couldn’t quickly find that legal basis either. But I guess it works similarly to the “professional trader” status, i.e. that there’s an assumption of non-personal use/import for higher quantities.
Bit of a bummer, considering I just realised - literally only days ago - how degressive pricing for medication can be.
A medication I’m taking is available in packs of one, three (or, for some manufacturers) four or six, with each bottle supposed to be used for only a month after opening.
A pack of three costs only 10-20% more than a single bottle. Seems you’re basically paying most of it its price for distribution rather than the actual actual substance or its packaging.
