Posting unedited AI output

As we now conveniently have a dedicated topic about the issue, I want to bring up alternatives to raw ChatGPT outputs in forum discussions.

Regarding ‘fact-checked’ GenAI, the most prominent one would be perplexity.ai.

For all claims it gives you sources where it got it from, and when it doesnt find any, it simply tells you. I asked it about the margin loan interest of Raiffeisen (Switzerland), and it told me it couldnt find a source and that I should contact Raiffeisen directly.

Note: It still requires the user to check whether the source is credible, so it’s not the ‘perfect’ tool. But it can make it easier to answer a question reliably than with ChatGPT or Google alone.

I’d rather see FIRE topics in this forum whenever possible. And here the topic could be “Lombard loans and their conditions”. Maybe @Barto feels like posting facts or questions on a new thread and we can all join and add our 5 cents’ worth of thought? I would not be opposed to closing this thread.

I do. Thank you

The comments directed towards me this morning - as opposed to being directed towards the topic - occupied mental space all day. I’m sad to see additional personal comments this evening despite the efforts of @Dr.PI and a few others to calm things down. I’m optimistic that the “likes” on the posts in question from polite people whom I interacted with for years were not because they agreed with those personal comments

Regards this thread title, FWIW I did challenge and edit the AI before I posted. l believe the ranges in the table look reasonable taking into account data and discussions I had in the past with IB, SQ, Raiffeisen, UBS, HSBC as well as spreads on mortgages and discussions with friends working in private banks (although I did not discuss my own personal situation yet). The thought was to eventually share real data because the Lombard loan rate will always be negotiated and not published. 1% spread from Pictet was suggested by someone else, it was also referenced in my post and would be great, but intuitively I doubt that applies to clients with 2-5M but I may be totally wrong. In retrospect I’m sorry I did not ask the AI to research and correct the 0.1% custody fee on IBKR as that seems to have been a distraction, even if IB was not the intended focus of the post (focus was intended to be alternatives to IB)

Thank you, I agree this would be a really nice way forward and helpful, but it will not be me who sticks my neck out to start any more threads for now

I come here because I enjoy helping others and receiving help in return. Having the forum take over my Sunday in a negative way is something I don’t need in my life. I’ll log out for a little holiday and stop contributing for a while

@Barto I just wanted to say I appreciate your contributions here. Your posts bring valuable insights and perspective. Please don’t let the recent criticisms get you down or feel like you need to take them to heart. People can be quick to judge, and sometimes words come out harsher than intended. It’s just talk, and it certainly doesn’t define your worth or the quality of your ideas.

To everyone here, let’s remember that we’re all here to share, learn, and grow together. Let’s make a collective effort to keep this space positive, respectful, and free of toxic behavior so that everyone feels welcome to speak and be heard.

I hope that after some time to recharge, you’ll feel up to rejoining us here. Looking forward to seeing you back when you’re ready!

If we use chatGPT, we could maybe agree to add the sources used for the answer (if not dozen of pages long). Is that something chatGPT can do ?

I don’t use ChatGPT much. While, I think it’s very useful in general, it’s risky to use when there’s little public information on the subject (e.g. Lombard loan rates).

In the topic chosen (Lombard loan), most of the information are not publicly available (with an exception for the minimum treshold maybe). As per its website, VZ Vermogen does not seem to offer Lombard loan. On the other side, Lombard Odier rates are public (Lombard loans | Base rates | Lombard Odier), but does not include the spread (agreed on a case by case)

I’d be interested to know what information the tool used to produce its response.
