Pants down: yearly spending!

29 CHF to 100k, with 2 more days to go… cmon, we can make it!

EDIT: holy crap, my wife and my in-laws are going to shop for last year evening’s Cenone (huge dinner) right now… goodbye five digits dream!

What’s the difference between Column Total & Yearly?

In December they’re the same.
During the year they’re not.
Total is “total expenses year-to-date”.
Yearly is “average monthly expenses * 12”.

How do you spend CHF 900+ on a dinner?
And how can I get an invitation?

Well, we’re actually “just” 69 CHF away from 100k…

Ah, I was confused because of the 5 figures vs 6 figures…

Thanks to @whatever for the template, I shamelessly copied it and adapted it to my needs

Yearly Expenses 2021 2022 forcast
Fixed Costs Rent 10’375 0
Taxes 1’591 3’657
Military Tax (Wehrpflichtersatzabgabe in German) 1’155 0
Common Account with GF 7’390 12’000
Health Insurance 3’548 3’600
Public transport 2’200 2050
Phone 228 239
Subscriptions (Spotify, iCloud) 0 120

Serafe 143 0
Newspaper 520 520
Education (University & Driving Lessons) 2’160 0
Memberships (Swiss Paraplegic Association, REGA, ASLOCA) 170 170
TOTAL Fixed Costs 29’924 (2’494 per month) 22’356 (1’863 per month)
Variable Costs 12’006 (1001 per month) 12’000 (1’000 per month)
TOTAL YEARLY EXPENSES 41’930 (3’494 per month) 34’356 (2’863 per month)

Some parts probably need some explanations:

  • Salary 2021 was 50.2k gross. 2022 I expect it to be around 78k gross.
  • I don’t further categorize variable costs, but here are some of the biggest contributors (out of my mind, no particular order): Eating out and food at work (when I don’t bring leftovers from home), holidays, electronics, clothes and personal hygiene.
  • Military tax: I paid it 11 times, so 2021 was the last time
  • Education: I graduated → 0
  • Rent, internet and serafe are now included in the common account with my girlfriend (she contributes the same amount). Electricity, groceries and maintenance of our car are also covered with that. Our rent is VERY low (770 a month total), so it works out.

Our summary for 2021, household of 3:

This is all post tax, since a) that is largely out of my control and b) makes the spending number more comparable to what I can expect post FIRE. On the savings side I also do not account for market fluctuations, it’s simply amount of CHF that has been put away and the market does what it does.

With two exceptions I’m happy with how things are going. First exception is the food expenses: Adding groceries, restaurants (actually a bit rare lately) & food deliveries (too often!) together we spend on average 2’000 - 2’200 CHF per month. Some of that is necessary to keep the spouse on board, but some of it is just a waste. Second exception is the money donated to the dentist, but hopefully this will not become a “same procedure as every year”.

Happy new year everybody.

This is my financial contribution for the year 2021:

To summarise, I’ve been living with my girlfriend for a little while and I’ve always had the highest salary or simply been the only one with a salary. My girlfriend got her first job in November 2021. So we decided to open a joint account for our salary payments and household expenses.

So from January to October 2021, I was only accounting for my expenses, i.e. everything by half, except for food where I paid 100%.

Since November, we have been earning a net salary of about CHF 6,000. She works at 70% and I am a trainee lawyer. Next year, our expenses will increase, on the one hand because I will take into account our expenses (100%), and on the other hand, because our health insurance will cost us more, indeed, in 2021 we benefited from a large subsidy, but this one is much lower for 2022.

My goal for 2022 is to finish my different trainings (CAS in Data Protection, CAS in Digital Finance and my lawyer’s license) and find a job with a “real” salary.

Despite these expenses, I was able to put some money aside to invest in the stock market, while having DCA my savings

Normaly, we will be able to spend at least CHF 3’000 per month for our investment (both 3a, VT and cryptocurrencies).

I might be the worse dressed person on this forum since I don’t spend in apparel as much as you guys/girls do. I spend in a year what some of you spend in a month.

I’ve spent 109 CHF in 2021 in apparel :joy:

But I will need to replace them (3 - 5 years of good services [T-Shirt, Pants, Shirts, Shoes]).
