Thanks, I hadn’t seen that there was already another All world ex US ETF (AWEX from Xtrackers just laumched in April this year, TER 0.15%), I’ve completed my previous post.
VXUS is the ticker for the new UCITS Vanguard All world ex US ETF… and also of one of the American Vanguard ex US ETFs called Total International Stock ETF ( the other American one is VEU Vanguard FTSE All-World ex-US), so yes quite confusing!
No, I can trade FX with interbank rates (employee benefit), so conversion is not an issue. But maybe I will also just stay with USD since 1) the volume is higher and 2) I can‘t set up recurring investments with my bank/broker.
Perhaps I formulated it in an unclear way. The fund doesn’t have EUR and GBP share classes (Vanguard promised a Euro-hedged one, I am not sure if it’s live). The fund is listed and traded in EUR and GDP, meaning that Authorized Participants take care of currency exchange. When you buy in Euros, and new shares must be created, your Euros are converted into Dollars behind the scene. The fund’s currency is dollar.
Yes very strange. Sent it from masterchief117@gmail.com and got no reply for days. Then from my work email and got it after 20 minutes lol.
Btw does anybody know if there is a FX markup when buying an ETF in a different trading currency than its base one? My FX fee is 0.17% on interbank rates, so I need to know what the better deal will be.
Edit: I checked with VWRA. Spread is 0.02-0.04 USD and 0.10-0.12 CHF. So roughly 0.05% loss on worse spread in CHF. I expect the same for VXUS UCITS.
What volume are we talking about (peanuts or painfull fees)?
My base recommendation would be to wait untill VALL Acc Chf is listed, then sell your old position in Eur and swap to Chf. For which Exchange, others already posted some very good reviews on this forum.
My base currency is and will be CHF. The volume is more than 100k EUR, i.e. currency exchange to CHF would cost a few hundreds EUR at Degiro. That`s why I hesitate.
I use two brokers as “diversification”. If there is any issue (account blocked or hacked) with one account, there is still the other one.
I would also switch currency to CHF now. Depending on the fees, sell on Degiro and transfer. There is probably no way to transfer EUR from Degiro to IB, so you transfer the ETFs to IB and sell them there, then convert to CHF.
