Mustachian phone plan

It kinda makes sense if you never use more than 2GB in total, so you just have 2GB of Europe-wide data. (+ Infinite swiss data that you’re never going to use)

But yeah it’s a bit shitty that it’s never clearly explained on the main site… only if you read the FAQs.

But at least the contract can be cancelled every 2 months, that’s still worth the 4-5 CHF compared to Salt’s 24 month contracts (Yallo doesn’t work for me).

Damn, this is really sneaky…!

… but they are very transparent IMHO - I’m OK with this…

Ah wait. That seems more fair.
2Gb are included and you can use them in EU
if you buy more Gb, you can use them in EU as well. After 8 Gb, you can’t buy (since they are free) and you can’t use Gb in EU.

Btw. It seems you can’t call CH from EU

The last sentence on the site is completely confusing. 8GB is the absolute total limit you can use in the EU (even with the 6GB that you have to pay separately). In Switzerland it’s always unlimited.

I asked support about it, and they said that in September the sysetm will change and the 2GB for the EU will be separate.

tbh that picture is infuriating…if I’d care enough. The 2Gb/Monat is aligned with Daten for both CH and EU. I don’t care if it’s called “Flat whatever”. What I see there is an Abo that has 2Gb/m.

If their PR/Marketing department is so careless, I wonder how’s their Tech.

or maybe you meant that it’s always unlimited BUT you pay for that, at 2Gb at a time.

In Switzerland it always unlimited without any problems.

But I expected the 2GB that I have for Europe to be separate, and only for Europe.

Now it’s that the first 2GB are valid everywhere, and the (infinite) rest is only Switzerland. The problem is that if I use my phone in Switzerland, I’m consuming the European data too.

I think I found a simple way to game Digitec Connect to get unlimited fast data in switzerland (+1GB shared roaming) for 16 chf per month (12.25 chf the first year).

When looking at the data sheet, you get to unlimited data for 49 chf.

Now, looking at the available options, we can see the MultiSIM option for 5 chf per month per extra device (with a free 1 year trial, nice), which allows for up to 4 devices in the same subscription for an extra 15 chf per month

Now, this means one could simply find 3 other people interested in unlimited data, and use the MultiSIM option to get a quite cheap subscription for (up to, if more than 7 GB is used) 16 chf per person (12.25 chf the first year !). I don’t think i’ve seen unlimited data without any throttling for quite this cheap in switzerland

PS : While this also allows people to get unlimited outgoing calls and SMS, the incoming calls and SMS would be quite the inconvinience to deal with, as such I don’t really consider them to be much of a benefit.

PSS : Regarding other similar offers, this subscription is up to ~30 times faster than the similarly priced Digital Republic Flat 10 plan, and while there are faster, and cheaper data plans, they come with data caps (reasonable 50 GB in the case of Salt Surf 50GB 5G), and require a 24 month contract duration rebate to be cheaper.

Edit : Fixed math, the MultiSIM option is 5 chf per extra device, not total, makes the numbers slightly worse after 1 year, but still better than the next best thing according to Comparis

Hi all,
I use my work phone plan + my private sim at the same time in my phone.
So basically I have both numbers available at all times. This is good because it allows me to save around 30chf/month in my private plan, since I am only paying 9chf currently with Yallo.

My question is if you know any cheaper plan that only keeps your phone working. Or if you know any pre-paid plan that only cost what you use.

Thanks

What do you mean? It’s the definition of prepaid that you only pay what you use.

I personally have Salt Prepay as an emergency SIM, since it’s only 50 cent per call (no matter how many minutes), and also offers unlimited internet for 2CHF a day. (EU roaming is extremely expensive though)

Might be an option if you want to give your grandparents free internet at home.
A mobile router and maybe a Zattoo subscription and they don’t need any expensive home internet and TV packages anymore.

That’s cool! I will check into that!

I think the problem with Wingo is that the Fair in the product name makes it rather unfair for the user. I first had a Fair Flat Swiss but only later realized that it still had variable prices depending data use.

I’ve just transferred my private number to the company plan when I had the option. It’s a matter of filling a form to port-in and port-out the number.

didn’t want to start another topic, but i am looking for specific mustachian phone plan information:

Situation: My personal salt postpaid plan is ending in 2 months and I’ve cancelled it already (no prolongation). My phone is also getting old. My employer have me a new iPhone with Swisscom sim.

What I don’t want: don’t want to give up old number. I don’t want to carry 2 phones.

Problems: My employer (1) does not allow me to port my personal number to work phone sim, (2) does not allow me to use e-sim in iPhone for personal phone number.

Solution I am looking for: pre-paid / cheap phone contract that allows me to keep my personal number, while forwarding calls / messages to my work phone number ( for FREE, or cheap * ). I would keep the personal sim in old phone at home, and carry only work phone around.

  • I saw sunrise pre-paid factsheet that charges swiss domestic call charges for forwarded call.

What if you convert your work sim to an esim?

I’ll ask but from their last replies it seems to me that use of e-sim is not permitted currently.

I understand this as

We don’t want you to use a personal number on the same phone that we gave you. At all.

(„Since we’re handing out corporate numbers as physical SIM, we just don’t phrase it otherwise“)

Don‘t try to be too clever and get into technicalities of our wording. We don‘t want you to…

Be careful with one thing first. Ask Salt to transfer your number to prepaid. As you cancelled your contract, you might simply list your number without notice.

Then, you will have time to find the best solution. Personally I would take a prepaid from the same provider as your work number. This should allow to forward calls for free (same provider, same network).

I did that when I cancelled the contract.

I’ll check Swisscom prepaid then. If they provide free call forwarding to other Swisscom number, it would fin my problem.

Seems to be the case. I’ve asked them what @ma0 suggested, failing which I look up Swisscom prepaid or cheapest Swiss voice/ call plan with call forwarding from any provider.

Unfortunately I think it doesn’t exist a prepaid with free calls, even on the same network.
