Can we please stop this ad bullshit please? Couldn’t sound more desperate.
may the mods un-hijack my job-thread from that lambda discussion^^
the most I have the willpower to do would be to delete everything starting from beethoven’s first post… don’t know if that would be ok with everyone though
@Bojack Sure - delete my posts the thread author had indeed a different question.
@whatever Laughable that I would have any monetary upside from anyone going for a specific kind of education. Just trying to share what I see in my industry.
There you go, a separate thread. Now let’s hope you contribute something more than just ads @Beethoven
Good thing: Free School until you have the mony to pay it
Bad thing: They can pick any price they want since people don’t really see/feel it.
Good thing: They get a lot of financing
Bad thing: They get a lot of internet exposure by the same people that financed them.
The rest is fluff.
thanks @Bojack
@ma0 not sure whether internet exposure is a bad thing. every great school needs a brand – and they are working on that.
More generally, I am a big believer in levelling the playing field for poor but hungry people (most EU countries do that quite well). Similar to bringing more women to the workforce, there is vast human potential that can be unlocked.
The US has ways to go on that front (just see the debt as % of GDP stat: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Student_loans_in_the_United_States – quite clear that many folks never visit a college or drop out for financial reasons). Any startup that improves the status quo has the potential to become massive. Udacity, Khan Academy, etc seem to be a step in the right direction but don’t quite solve the problem end to end.
On the European side I think also highly of
https://www.42.fr/ (paid by some billionaire)
https://code.berlin/ (also offers some sort of ISA)
I would love to hear from anyone that actually attended these or a similar institution.
OMG I read @Lambada School@ and thought “what’s that for an oldshool spam message?”
The problem with this schools is that they really don’t teach you how to program. They show you some tools and some JavaScript frameworks… and how to “cheat” on whiteboard interviews.
Would you trust a doctor that got his job in the same way? How hard is it to remember which medicine cures the most common symptoms… And if it’s something more complicated you can always google or send them to a specialist, right?
