I made a small typo in my tax report (number of WMT shares). I received official stats from tax office and they told me I have 30 days to report any issues.
How much would it cost me to report my typo? It increases my taxes for 17 CHF, but I want to have clean record (how to justify I no longer have the shares I claimed I have) so if the fee is not too high I would let them know about the issue.
Agree 100% on the principle. But you do recognize that your taxes are assessed on the basis of various assumptions, lump sum deductions, etc. and at the end the result is also rounded again? 17 CHF is basically a rounding error.
Also, most cantons don’t even bother sending an invoice for such small amounts and simply waive it (if that’s the single invoice, obviously different if they have to still send an invoice anyway). They do so because talking about 17 CHF of taxes will cost more than those 17 CHF.
Agree 100% on the principle . But I wouldn’t take it upon myself to decide which tax corrections worth processing and which not. Because taxes, you know.
Rounding rules for taxable amounts are: Rounding down to next full 100 for income taxes and down to next full 1000 for wealth taxes. Take your locations marginal tax rates for both cases and apply them on this one (1) rounding multiple, e.g. 35% marginal income tax rate on 100 is 35 CHF, 3‰ marginal wealth tax on 1000 is 30 CHF. Take the lower of those two, in that case 30 CHF. If your error is above that, report it, if below, ignore.
There you have it, no correction needed for 17 CHF
