Very interesting. I need to remember to try it. My tax declaration is very simple, no properties, stocks held in Switzerland with e-tax returns. But every year i get a minor correction from the tax authorities. I trust more these tools than fiduciare, quite frankly, which is why i never went to one. But i see it’s available only in Zurich for the time being.
I don’t understand. How do you see the correction as a reason to use the iqtax service? Do you think iqtax can do the corrections better than the tax authorities?
The idea is simply to use the tool to do my tax declaration, if i don’t get any correction from the tax authority that’s already beating the benchmark (me). I can handle a simple tax return, I would not test this with more complex situations.
Interesting for sure.
Privacy wise though probably a nightmare…
This means nothing. I’ve not had a single year without adjustments. It’s funnier when they lower your tax due. ![]()
I really don’t know, but I might not be the target group.
“Simply upload your documents and let the AI do the heavy lifting. Your Swiss tax return will be prepared accurately in minutes instead of hours”
Aren’t the documents the heavy lifting? As much as I enjoy it, you copy last year’s value and the tax tool even points you where you need to update or confirm your figures. How’s that heavy lifting that takes hours?
“You can store your documents and receipts centrally and clearly or scan them directly with the iqdocs app.”
Or you store them in a folder on your PC as they come. Like step 2-4, that’s all there is to it afterwards, assuming you have learned the basics once.
And what’s Post Finances role? Ah, there it is
“Our role is to advise you on your financial needs as required, for example in the areas of retirement planning, investments, financial planning or financing. If you wish, you can arrange an appointment with our specialists directly from the tool.”
You are actually making great points… I did not think that this is sponsored by postfinance.

Sorry but that is not my benchmark. My benchmark is to try to deduct as much as possible and hope that they dont realize. In the best case it slips through, in the worst case I tried and failed. That’s at least my philosophy when it comes to tax filing
Like what?
Yeah, curious as well.
I deduct a flat wealth management cost of 3‰ in AG - this isn’t allowed normally - but you don’t tell me, you tell it to the tax office…
There are certain thresholds for things based on “best practices” for municipalities and they sometimes just wave things through - so a bit of try and error is always good.
I also deduct a bike AND a GA - every year lol… Then I also deduct a lot of costs that I have (like new PC, Laptop, etc.) together with any major training that comes up. Did a degree a few years ago and always maxed the deduction with tuition + any expenses that could even remotely be attributed to school.
Those all aren’t that big of a deal though - the biggest leverage always is retirement contributions (2nd and 3rd pillar).
In recent years however I’ve run into the problem of getting questions about my savings rate - it’s a bit tiresome to explain to the tax office how this works and also (and this is imho very stupid) their system treats flat deductions as expenses, as if they were real… it’s pretty stupid and a bit of work for both parties to clarify this year over year…
Thats actual perfectly legal, there is s supreme court ruling on this.

Interesting. In ZH 3% is the standard. No questions asked if you deduct 3%. See the Weisung des kantonalen Steueramtes über die Abzugsfähigkeit der Kosten für die Verwaltung von Wertschriften des Privatvermögens
From my understanding the ruling was a about a Streckenabo+bike, not a GA+bike. But it confirmed the eligibility to deduct both bike and public transport.
I file in both ZH and BL and put in the 3‰ deduction. ZH accepted and BL denied it and adjusted the tax return, which also gets sent to ZH, so effectively gets denied there too now.
I wish it were easier to understand what changed between your declaration and the final decision.
Sometimes you have a comment, but most of the time you need to go line by line, and even then it’s not clear why it was changed.
„Abzugsberechtigt sind die tatsächlichen Kosten der durch Dritte besorgten Verwaltung des beweglichen Vermögens„
So ZH also refused because a portfolio of 1 Etf on Ibkr is considered DIY and/or needs no work.
To be honnest that makes sense.
