For those who have FX transactions throughout the year what official source for FX rates do you use? The problem I have with ICTax is that there is only a dropdown box selection for 1 date at a time and no way to download all dates for major currencies. Yahoo finance provides historical daily rates (but not exportable) would this be acceptable or any other suggestions?
thereâs an official source but it is behind an annoying web form to download one date currency pair at a time. it would have been nice to have this as a data file.
Iâm not sure I understand. Do you mean simple currency exchange with âFX transactionsâ or something like leveraged FX trading, or something else? Simple currency exchange transactions arenât part of the tax declaration, so the exchange rate at the transaction date isnât relevant. For dividend distributions, the tax software automatically fills in the amounts in CHF from ICTax. So I donât usually care about official exchange rates in the middle of the year. What do you need it for?
ok I can use the ECB website they have a daily table, not official but should be good enough and its free. Every commercial source of historical rates seems to be behind a subscription.
The use is for those who likely have a side business and need to calculate unrealized FX gains/losses, transaction dates and the associated rates would be needed.
Zurich tax tool does the conversion automatically.
I like to track my stuff so when I get a dividend I just use ICTax and enter the date and copy it. But I donât get that many dividends (or interest).
It isnât drop down though. You can quickly enter it manually, too. Quite fast with a numpad tbh
Donât bother, just use the average annual rate published by the tax authorities.
If your bank/broker allows you to generate a report in CHF, use the figures directly. Itâll be accepted by the tax authorities even if they are not the official rates
