Tbh I never understood how this rule is supposed to work. Does it have to be coupled with some kind of strict envelope budgeting system? Otherwise I can see myself coming to a coop at the end of the month and like, “all this food looks nice, but I’m out of money, so will skip for now”.
How do you people manage the fact that USD is devaluating with the autoinvest function in IBKR?
I always wire the same in CHF, and always invest the same in USD, which means basically I am investing less and less each month.
Do you go from time to time to buy VT manually?
It takes like 5 seconds to adjust the USD value in the recurring investments. Just do that occasionally. You can then also overcompensate a little if you accumulate USD.
Yeah, it’s annoying. Even when adjusting the USD amount hours before market close, I constantly get an “insufficient funds” error, even though my CHF cash position is more than enough to cover the specified USD amount and any fees.
The rule CHF → USD minus 1% doesn’t always seem to work either
It would be great to be able to simply set the investment amount in the base currency (minus fees).
