on google map, if you select fuel price in the research in the location you want
Comparis has fuel prices.
In CH: TCS Benzin map (also in the TCS app).
Note: I see now that Comparis is using the TCS data.
Thank you all ![]()

Thank you for the occasion to mention that my 14 yo ICE car consumes as much fuel as a regular modern hybrid
it’s called a compact car and it can and has comfortably transported 5 people at the same time with their hiking gear, as well as occasionally beds and other furniture - oh the technical advances /s
and TCS is using google map or similar apparently lol
How much can you save. I must admit being a mug and just going to my local Coop gas station. I actually live just on the border of France and Germany so could easily get petrol from there too.
I calculated a difference if 19.35 CHF on a full (45l) tank at today’s prices between my local prices and possibly optimal in the road, though that includes geoarbitrage.
Lets say 45 l and 5 cents difference, is only 2.25 CHF.
It’s mostly about habits I would say. For example, there’s usually about 15 cents difference between my local prices and some other (Swiss) regions that I regularly visit.
So I took the habit to visit the gas stations there.
So let’s imagine someone drives 10k km at 5l/100km per year for 30 years and they will buy all fossile fuels at 15 cents less (which is pretty good I would say):
500*0.15=75
75/year at 7% for 30 years = 7580 CHF
Seems okay for a no hassle habit of just filling up on the road basically anywhere except home, but probably nothing to spend significant time on.
I would say fine if it’s a hobby but let’s imagine you spend as much time as you’d spend optimising and calculating that on developing a personal skill, passion or hobby, or simply gainful employment. Let’s include the time optimising the course for each travel into that.
Yeah, I concluded the same in my edit and follow up post ![]()
It’s mostly only worth it if it takes nearly no time/effort.
Anything like that for EVs?
Ok update: this did not work out
never mind ![]()
Maybe do it if you have a copilot that’s bored to death.
Lifehack take away: be aware of prices on your regular routes and repair your car yourself for better value for time ![]()
