How to contact Kt.GE tax office

Sorry for an English text here. I have a property in Geneva and therefore need to declare taxes.
I’m not gonna do the GE-Tax thing as I am living in Zürich.

It seems that I absolutely need an e-démarche account (which I have registered), but then the “verified” account section doesn’t work when putting in my AHV/AVS number (correct number, correctly written name).

I filed my taxes in Zürich in about an hour.
I sent my declaration to Kt.AG in 5 minutes via email.
I sent my declaration to Kt.SO in 5 minutes via electronic contact form.

For Geneva:

  • I didn’t ever get a tax package per Post
  • I can’t contact the tax office per email or a simple contact form
  • I had to register an account that I’m otherwise never going to use (fine)
  • the basics (AHV/AVS check) don’t work on the web, so I can’t get a verified account
  • I can’t seem to even send an email to the authorities from the portal without the verified account.
HOW IS THIS CANTON STILL FUNCTIONAL??

If anyone has an idea how I can submit my tax declaration to the cantonal office in the easiest way possible, I’d be super glad

Not sure what’s going on here. In Switzerland you get taxed by the canton you resided in on Dec 31. Then you mention your previous residencies and properties and the tax people will sort it out.

Or am I missing something?

The only option here would be to send a printed version of your ZH tax return.

Once setup e démarche is strait forward and easy to use.

Did you follow all the steps? Did you receive the confirmation letter at home?

At the end of the page, you’ll find the details to get help (email or phone)

Rent-to-let stuff gets taxed locally as cantonal income, unfortunately.

I still file in Zürich but I need to keep all other cantons informed.

You don’t need a snail mail letter anymore.
I’m registered alright, but it gets stuck on my AVS check.

How lovely

  • their call center only speaks French (FU foreigners)
  • if you want to talk to them about individual taxation, they hang up after saying “please register on e-démarche”

Lovely. I’ll send them 50 pages of paper then. :man_shrugging:

That‘s a little harsh. After all, only a mere 39% of Geneva‘s population is foreign :joy:

And on top you even get a hefty tax premium for the “superior service” compared to other cantons  (Take it with a grain of salt, I don’t want to offend anyone obviously)

Their website states that you need to be a Geneva resident, or pay your taxes here, to create a GE tax account which is probably why you block at the AVS number. The website also states that they do not accept any electronic communication outside of the GE tax application. I found a form to contact them to set up an appointment for real estate queries but that requires your physical presence. There is a form to set up a visioconference with them here. Select Déclaration d’impôt and Independent before you press continue which takes you to a calendar. Pick your date and you will receive an email with a link inviting you to join the meeting.

If for some reason this doesn’t work for you I happen to live close by the tax office, I can stop by and ask them for instructions for you.

Alternatively you make a paper submission by snail mail to:
Administration fiscale cantonale
Rue du Stand 26
Case postale 3937
1211 Genève 3

that’d be awesome, let me ping you in private

well, minus all the international organizations who probably don’t do taxes at all and then we might be just 30%… still 5% more than Zürich where they are happy to serve you in at least 3 languages (German, English and probably French too if needed).

This is what the real estate guy at the tax office told me this morning:

  1. All they need is your Zurich tax declaration which should indicate your share of the property, rents, charges and maintenance cost. They do not need a copy of the sales agreement. Your ZH tax declaration can be sent by snailmail, or electronically once you have a number inviting you to declare the property in Geneva.
  2. The guy was well aware of the Foxstone properties. It takes minimum of 1 year for the real estate transaction to be registered at the Registre Foncier. Once that is done every owner will receive a communication from the Geneva tax authorities with a number requesting them to declare in Geneva.
  3. He suggested you wait until you receive a communication from the Geneva tax authorities to do the declaration.

I suggest you call them yourself to confirm this. Select number 3 for Immobilier (Real estate) and you will be transferred to the correct section. He said there should be no language problems as many of the employees speak English.

confirmed - apparently, despite the Dec 2023 purchase date, they haven’t been able to process the purchase yet in some registry, so he asked me to wait … so I’ll wait then.
