It can be much longer, I haven’t received 2023 final decision

Did you have any ETFs with delayed tax reporting info ?
Aust 27th. Despite a triple digit number of securities in my tax return none that have delayed tax reporting info until maybe a day or two or three into the new year.[$]
What are the reasons ETFs (or any securities really) have to delay tax reporting for weeks and months, even? (Genuine question)[$$]
Aren’t the pay dates for dividends or capital appreciation settled and documented a few days after Dec 31?
$ There are one or two securities where Swissquote manages to screw up the corporate actions (aka dividend payments) such that they issue stornos for dividends paid in Q3/Q4 of 2024 in Q1 or even Q3 2025 (at any rate after I’ve submitted my 2024 tax return), but the taxman glances over this unless they do a thorough audit (which they only did once so far).
After all, it’s clearly the broker who screwed up, and the taxman never got back to me about this for my 2024 filing.
$$ I should note that for companies / ETFs that don’t show up with their distributions automatically in the ZRH Online Tax web app, I fill in the lacking information manually, supported with uploaded PDFs of distributions paid out via the broker.
Maybe if you don’t fill that out manually, the tax office will wait until it gets that information from their supplier of that information?
I don’t think it’s uncommon for funds to have their annual reports not aligned with a civil year.
Yes, there were a few ETFs with late corrections:
- XTrackers MSCI Mexico (23/04)
- Amundi Prime ACW (22/05)
Actually the tax transmission from ETF provider to ICTAX can take some time. I think it depends when does the ICAV does the ESTV reporting for Swiss documentation.
for example -: SSAC ETF data was not available in ICTAX until early July.
For distributing ETFs it’s not an issue because most likely they report dividends as soon as they distribute. But for accumulating, it can be a challenge.
Same is true for XMME, WEBN etc.
We had the example recently of VWRL having extra income beyond dividends(ICTax - Income & Capital Taxes)
I was going to say “aah, I see, emerging markets … oh well” but now I’ll have to upgrade my insult to “ah, ETFs … just pick stocks instead!”

I’ll see myself out.
Thank you, the tax lady told me a few years ago that I am the single one client to give them a lot of work. You probably passed me! ![]()
