Future USD weakness

Yes, we’ve agreed on this before, the biggest loss would be international talent going elsewhere because of a hostile environment.

I see immigration is very similar to index investing

When you have immigrants, some can be good and some can be bad. But a few very good ones can make a huge difference. Sergei Brin, Elon Musk, Bezos, Steve Jobs, Jensen Huang, Lisa Su -: all are immigrants (first or second gen)

Since you cannot pick good from bad (just like stock pickling), you might need to end up excepting all

Not saying illegal immigration should be supported. But hating immigrants as a whole will definitely backfire.

Depending on how I wake up the morning I hover between “the US will lose its edge if they become hostile to foreigners” to “if they continue paying mountains of money they’ll be fine, the people want will go anyway”. In the end money is king in the US.

Slightly orthogonal: does anyone beside @cubanpete_the_swiss and me actually spend/exchange USD (or any other currency than the CHF) to finance their living as we speak?

EUR regularly.
Why?

Oh, just curious whether there are people participating in the discussion actually transacting in the discussion. Seems you do, too, sorry about not including you in my previous question.

As a true mustachian I spend only Dollars in cell phone plans. Internet in Switzerland did cost me $4 for the last 3 years and I still have $3 left (BNE everlasting gigas, buy only on discount). I have a VPN and pay in Dollars for it and I use it to get digital shit cheaper in Dollars too.

And I really like San Diego, even the night trips to Tijuana are a little more complicate at the moment…

@cubanpete_the_swiss How did you manage that? :open_mouth:

I wait for BNE offers on never expanding gigas for Europe, I think the normal price is $3 per giga, but sometimes you get it for $1 or even 80 cents. I have wifi everywhere and only use Internet for easypark so there are still 1.9 of 2 gigs left. Installation with e-sim and app is super easy.

Europe was cheaper than Switzerland and includes Switzerland. Uses the salt net.

(maybe better suited for the “mobile-best-deals” topic, assuming there is one)

Thanks for sharing!   Very timely for me, as I’ll need Europe (well, Germany, France, and the Netherlands) for the next couple of weeks but really despise those expiring one time deals (I am on Galaxus) as I hardly ever use them up and the next time I need them they’re gone.

BNE even offers the same price whether I approach their website with Safari on my Macbook or fake to be on Edge/Windows (surprised me, at least).
