Food - meats and extra characters

It should be illegal to post a link that sends you to a site where you have to agree to their term and condition to read the content. (Worse if you just need to click to agree).

On a side note: try to tell any italian that your ragu cooks for less than 4 hours.. (afternoon-cappuccino reactions)

Indeed.

I hope I am not in illegal territory by violating the copyright of Ms. Hazan’s cookbook.

My family’s recipe doesn’t use milk.
I don’t want to start a political discussion, but lately many restaurants and companies skip the pork meat and ruin the ragu.

My German is adequate to understand this text, I honestly wonder if getting some cookbooks in German would actually help me as I’ll get the context and fill in the gaps. Doesn’t work for everyday life unfortunately..

I mean the “no pork” one. Business wise makes sense..but it feels like Mc Donalds opening in India..

In case anyone is interested, there is a Black Friday discount for the Instant Pot Pro Crisp, the large version with an air fryer lid, CHF 185 instead of CHF 241: https://www.galaxus.ch/de/s2/product/instant-pot-multicooker-pro-crisp-dampfgarer-reiskocher-20384931

There are smaller/simpler models that are cheaper even without a discount, though.

Wow this price is incredibly cheap ! It is really a go to for cooks beginner that want to enhance their meal or prep cook lunches for the week.

This tool is energy efficient compared to an oven, allow you to cook tasty food without the need to connect it and follow connected recipes for 10x the price !

I am pondering getting this new version and reselling my old one :face_with_peeking_eye:

Is the 190CHF on google an approximation or galaxus had just raised the price in order to lower it?

I don’t know where the CHF 190 is coming from but if we can trust the Galaxus price history, the discount seems real.

You might want to look also on amazon.de I bought an instant pot delivered directly and it was way cheaper than galaxus.

That one costs 199 eur until this evening. How much does it last at galaxus?

Dumb question: Does it make sense to buy one? I am kind of checking every year the “Monsieur Cuisine” from Lidl, and all the time I’m almost buying it but then I check the recipes and I see a lots of steps that makes me wonder why buying that thing if you still have to do most of the things.

Same with this Instant Pot. I did check their recipes and in the first page I’ve found a nice one that required to use 3 different pans..

I think it is not the same level of recipes. I use it mainly for batch cooking.

I have 2 pots, a non sticky one for the rice that I use intensively.

The other one in steel, is ideal if you want to do beef sauté or slow cooking for a beef-stew or ribs. You could also steam veggies such as corn, potatoes

New Year’s Eve menu:

watery lentil soup.

No wait, that’s mustachian, no here’s the real menu (with Mirager commentary):

  • baked Camembert with garlic, rosemary and some compote from Northern European fruits (ie tasteless sour crap), Italian crackers
  • lamb chops in garlic butter and rosemary
  • Hokaido pumpkin + sweet potato red curry coconut veloutĂ©
  • Shoulder of pork, “mit Haut, bitte”, roasted in the oven with mustard and beer
  • salad + bread
  • Caramelised pears with cinnamon and lemon ricotta cream
  • Vasilopita (King’s/St Basil’s Pie) with a 20 rappen coin thrown in the wet dough, like my grandma did, none of that woke bullshit of sticking a foil-wrapped coin in the back like a grandma checking chicken butts for eggs. Wife said it may be toxic, I told her “don’t worry, we won’t eat it”.
    • 400g flour
    • 1 sachet baking powder (is there some restriction from selling self-raising flour in CH?)
    • zest of 2 oranges
    • dash vanilla
    • 200g sugar
    • edit: 250g butter
    • 4 eggs
    • 1 tsp mahleb
    • 1/2 tsp cardamom
    • 100ml milk
    • icing sugar dusting saying “2026”, “Hail Satan”, “Short the VIX” or whatever else one wants

Edit: oh and following the manly tradition of cleaning while cooking means the kitchen is spotless, everything’s washed and it doesn’t look like the Vandals and Attila the Hun had a party with molotov cocktails (ie when my other half cooks).

Maybe make the live stream available to everyone on the forum?

We got a Monsieur Cuisine for free a few years ago. Maybe they’ll have the same offer. Basically you bought one and they gave you the equivalent in Lidl vouchers so as long as you spend €30 per month for a year, then it was effectively free.

Man, this REALLY DOES look like my table at the moment, will post a pic later.
