First time future home-owners

I recently got the energy and water consumption over the last 8 years of our future house. There are actually two separate electricity meters in the house. The average electricity and water consumptions over the last 8 years are as follow:

“Bezügeranlage” Meter: ~ 4110 kWh
“Wohnung” Meter: ~ 2230 kWh
=> Total average yearly electricity consumption ~ 6340 kWh

Water consumption: ~183 m^3

I believe the water consumption is really high for a household of two adults (by comparing it to our own water consumption). Not sure for what they use all this water for? (watering the garden? Or taking a lot of bathes? )

The electricity consumption is a bit more tricky to evaluate and compare with our own consumption. We live in a rented flat and get a separate electricity bill but that covers only the appliances in the flat, not the heating/warm water. From what I could gather, the electricity consumption of the heat pump and warm water boiler is counted with the “Bezügeranlage” meter and all other appliances with the “Wohnung” meter.

I did a simulation with energyguide for our future house and got the following numbers:

Total energy consumption: 6325 k Wh

The number is surprisingly close to the average consumption of the current owner! Breakdown according to energyguide is as follows:

Geothermal heat pump system: 1925 kWh
Warmwater heated electrically (household of 2): 1600 kWh
Rest of appliances (oven, wash machines, lights, fridge, etc.): 2800 kWh

According to energyguide, the energy consumption of Heat Pump + Warm water would be around 3525 kWh which is 15% lower than the actual electricity consumption for these two appliances of our future house. Then again, the current owners use a lot of water and assuming they also use a lot of warm water (e.g. bathes), the electricity consumption of the warm water boiler might be high as a result of this.

I would be interested to know what the individual consumptions of the heat pump and the warm water boiler would be. Is there any way to find out by inspecting the heat pump or the warm water boiler? I asked the electricity company already, but they cannot tell since there is only one meter which covers both heat pump + boiler.

We will visit the house again in a week: I would like to inspect the heat pump and the boiler a bit more in detail. Anything in particular I should pay attention to?

When I had massive water consumption, it turned out to be an internal burst pipe. Had to dig up the concrete slab to find and replace it.

Interesting, but I don’t think this is the case for the current owners. Their water consomption has been pretty constant over the last 8 years. 183 m^3 is a lot for a household of two adults, no?

Our own water consomption has been around 80-90 m^3 before our Child was born and was close to 100 m^3 in the First year with our child (and we have the washing machine in our flat which consumes quite a bit of water)

Also if I look at our electricity bills, we consumed around 1200-1300 kWh without children. With one child we are closer to 1500 kWh which is still significantly less than the 2230 kWh the current owners consume for all electrical appliances of the house (not considering heat pump and boiler here)

I guess the current owners are not very mustachian with their water and electricity consumption
